Queen Sightings

Though terribly ill, I went out on Release Day to get the book. I went to to the nearest city with a bookstore, Chico, CA. First I went to Walmart and had no luck, so I went to Barnes and Noble. I was shocked to find out they didn't have a single copy. They had 16 on order, but had no idea when they'd show up. Still determined to get the book that day, I called every bookstore in a 60 mile radius, only to have all of them tell me the same thing: it was on order, but none were in stock. Greatly saddened, I went back to Barnes and Noble and had them order me a copy. It would arrive Thursday.

Blog Fun!

Thank you all so much for coming out and joining the QUEEN countdown and celebration with me. I don't know about you, but I've had a blast!

And the final question of the QUEEN Countdown and Release Week Celebration is.... What was your favorite part of the Queen Countdown and Release Week Celebration? What can I improve? What should I do differently next year?

My favorite one of this week was the fey games. I'm a sucker for trivia and other such things, and I enjoyed answering the questions. Perhaps next time have some more triva about the mythology of the fading lands that has been mentioned through the books. I am exceptionally bad at giving feed back though. The daily blog questions i really liked.

My favorite part of the count down was reading and seeing everyone’s postings. It allowed me to see that I was not the only one dying for the release date to arrive and it even managed to control my impatience for that date to arrive. It kept me busy and interested and even gave comfort in knowing I was not alone in my waiting. I don’t think I have any improvements for you, I felt it was perfect. I hesitate to mention this for next year, because I had some problems with my email around the start of October so it’s possible you did it this year and my mail was down that day  But here goes anyway, next year you could send an announcement for the blog celebrations. If you did send out announcements this year, then I don’t have any recommendations since this year was perfect and you’ve been the perfect hostess. Thank you very much for all your time keeping me amused.

I really enjoyed the riddles and the blog where you began a story and we finished it. The 20 questions was pretty fun too, though it was sometimes hard to time it right. I loved it all.

I loved the Name that quote contest. That was so fun to figure out.
This is the most fun I've ever had for a new release for a book.
I think an announcement about the book and the contests should go out earlier so we are aware of it sooner.
Unless your intent is for us to visit your website daily looking for a new release date. :0)

I agree with everyone reading and interacting on the blog of the day has been the best. This has been my first time participating in anything like this although I have often looked in but you made this too fun just to watch and not be a part of! Please tell us it won't take another full year before the end of Rain and Ellie's Story!!!Also the Fey Games were terrific! Don't change a thing!

Unfortunately I missed the Countdown but my favorite part of Release week was the Fey Games. Is there a way for the annoucement list to let us know a week before the book is released?

Yes, I agree with everyone.

I love coming here and reading everyone else's thoughts and contributions to the questions. I loved seeing the updates and new riddles and quotes. My favorite days were the interactive ones, 20 questions and the brain teasers. Everything was just so fun. I am most definitely going to miss everything after today. Just another reason to anticipate the release of Tairen Soul! :)

I can't think of much to change, you really did a wonderful job. I did love the book related games, such as riddles and brain teasers, etc. So more of those would always be appreciated hehe

Anyway, fantastic job Cheryl!! I look forward to next time :)

Do it the exact same way next year!! My favorite part is the daily riddle - I'm a trivia fan and then I get to look back at the books or I am reminded of certain scenes. Oh, and all the prizes are spectacular!!

My favourite parts of the countdown were reading everyone's response to the daily comments and the Fey games. I enjoyed the countdown for KoSS as well last year, but I am glad that you began QoSS countdown earlier and also included the Fey games. I've had a blast and am looking forward to the TS countdown!

I have very much enjoyed the quotes and name that fey games. Most of all I have enjoyed reading others comments here.

I wish I had known earlier but I have a feeling that you are going to become so popular that you may not be able to do this next year. As much as I would miss this, I wish you the success@

Thanks, this has been so much fun.

I loved all of it and wouldn't change a thing! I really enjoyed when you introduced the Fey Games and Name that Quote. They were fun to figure out!

I would have to say that my favorite thing was of a smallish sort...everyday there was a quote from the new book at the beginning of your post - that made me chomp at the bit to read the new book!!

My favorite part of the countdown is....well, the multiple opportunities to win chances and tickets in the pot to win wonderful things!

Uhm, improve wise....it was difficult for some to post to the 20 questions one because some of us are so busy are aren't able to get on. Though, it's true, tough luck to those, but it would be cooler if there was another way to do that day's comments.

I LOVED the prizes, wonderful ideas, my FAVORITE day's contest was that of writing more to the little blurb of a short story Lady Cheryl had started, about Bel and Gaelen. That was SO much fun. I feel bad for them what everyone put them through but hey, they're Fey, they can handle it. Hehe.

Love the series, love the Fey, and LOVE Lady Cheryl for being obsessed with contests! Great job and good luck to everyone!!!

I thought it was very interesting and anxiousness-driving to have one every day and several ones to try at, such as the quote, the riddle, and the comment question. That was a great idea.

I did think they're should have been more Fey/ Fading Lands Baskets to win, though I'm sure those came in such short supply for a great reason, understanding as well it made them that more special with less around.

I really enjoyed participating un the countdown. My favorite was the fey games. However, I loved the fact that you had something for everyone in trivia, comments to the daily blog posts, etc. It made it easy to participate even when I wasn't up to all of the challenges that were possible in a day.

I really liked the daily blog questions. I enjoyed reading the responses. It gave this blog a personal feel. I definitely envy Oldbull's reading experience. The brainteasers were fun, but made for repetitive reading in the comments. I liked the Queen sightings too. Pictures are always great.

My favorite part was the fey games. Although I would suggest making the riddles about more than just characters. If you added locations or events it would make it a little more challenging and also give you more variety to work with. I also enjoyed the brain teasers.

I would have to say my favorite part of the countdown was the hands on experience. In the past, I have never seen an author personally reply to emails in less than a day, yet alone dedicate an entire month or so to the countdown of their release, giving out multiple prizes daily and taking the time to just reply to emails and organize it all, because I'm sure it was a massive project. I'm just amazed at it all and wish other authors would do the same, although I know of some that already do (Cheryl just takes it one step further) I really don;='t have any suggestions. You reply to emails very rapidly or in under a day and honestly remember to get a new post up every day. Plus the prizes are gorgeous.

The trivia, quotes, and blog questions also refreshed my memory before I read QUEEN :)

like almost everyone on here:) i enjoyed the interaction! i LOVED reading everyone's comments EVERYDAY (i got teased relentlessly from my husband for it!!) and it did help pass the time while waiting for queen to come out...my favorite part of this was probably when we all would get little feed back comments from you:) it was super nice of you to put in your words of encouragment or advice and i enjoyed hearing your thoughts. its so obvious how much you care for your readers (im sure all authors do) but it really showed in this little countdown for queen and the release week for queen. thanks for putting so much into this! i had LOTS of fun participating:) thanks again!

I was just thinking of something the other day about improving your blog. But I can't remember what it was, so it must not have been something very big.

I enjoy the opportunity to win something (oh, how I love to get things), and I enjoy being able to interact with the author of some books I really like.

My favorite thing is discovering something about the world that maybe wasn't actually in the books. Maybe by accident, or because you purposely revealed something to us, I like that little extra bit of knowledge.

The games were fun. I enjoy giving my own opinions on things, so that's always fun. And if I can also get good recommendations for new books or authors from the others posting, that's always nice.

I appreciate that you were so faithful in updating and responding. We can all guess how busy you must be, especially during a release week, so it's nice to know that you were going to hold to your promises.

Oh, I remember what I was thinking about improvements. I was thinking your blog website should be designed so that the games are displayed in a separate area of the page, so that it doesn't distract from the actual blog.

I know you have other panels or frames that have advertisements and quotes, or whatever, so I think having the games in a separate panel would clear up some of your space. So maybe a box for Today's Name that Fey game. A box for Today's Name that Quote game. Off to the side, up towards the top. Then you would just update the riddle or quote, and not have to do the whole copy and paste thing and take up all that space on your blog. (I suppose you could use a "previous" link also, if you are thinking people might want to see the previous games.)

Also, the rules for entering, could be on a separate little page that only opens when you click the link on how to enter. (Not one of those pages that comes up and replaces your page, and not one of those pages in a new tab, but one of those little boxes kind of like an error box that would just display the entry information quickly and discreetly, so we don't have to read through it all again.)

ALSO, as long as we're pulling things out of the main blog, you could list the winners in their own separate box, also.

Having those big long paragraphs of stuff we read every day seems like a waste of space to me. (But it's still okay this way, too.)

This countdown event in general has been fun. The interaction with people and yourself is awesome, so I wouldn't change that. Comments about streamlining it so there's separate places for games and winners aren't bad.

The games and questions have certainly worked my mind. I really liked that, and I've tried to remember as much as possible without turning to the books.

The prize opportunities have been absolutely STUNNING, and I must thank you for being generous enough to offer so many. <3

Otherwise, I don't think I have any tips for improvement--if I do somewhere along the line, I'll be sure to toss an email your way. :]

Hi everyone.

Broncos suggested forums on the website.

You're welcome to come join Cheryl's group at clwilson@yahoogroups.com.
The Fey games originated there. We had a blast for several weeks prior to the countdown. QOSS discussions will be starting soon.
As a group, we are very interactive and Cheryl visits as often as she can.

Thanks Cheryl for a terrific countdown and another great book !!!

I loved the Name that Fae, and Name that Quote. They reminded me of some of my favorite characters or scenes. And all the prizes, of course, were truly awesome! I can't wait for Tairen Soul to come out. I'll have to make sure I mark my calendar a month before it comes out so I can be sure to participate from the very beginning.

I can't imagine what you could do differently, except maybe give away more prizes? Although, you have been truly generous. It's been a lovely few weeks Cheryl, and very nice to digitally meet so many people who love your work like I do. And don't look at me askance when I'm all aflutter over a new book release.

My favourite part of the Queen countdown was the little riddles and quotes where we had to say who had said something or figure out who the riddle talked about.I agree with Bethany S about maybe next time having more trivia about the mythology from the books. I also enjoyed answering the daily question on the blog (it was an interesting way to spend free time in thinking up an answer ^^)

I really enjoyed all the questions that sent me paging through my copies of your books; not only could I call it research, but it was fun research. It allowed me to revisit and remember many of the adventures (your books are stuffed chock full of 'em), and even to find new things that I missed the first time around.

The brain teasers were a surprise, but a very fun one; I think you should keep them!

For next time, maybe you could consolidate your winners to a certain section of your blog? It wasn't easy to sift through the entry entry, although bolding helped a bit.

That said, thank you so much for holding all these contests and giving away so much--you've been more than generous, and it is much appreciated. ♥
