Question of the Day:
How did you first come learn about the Tairen Soul series, and what made you decide to give the books a try?

66 Comments:
I discovered the Tairen Soul series completely by happenstance; I was walking down the Romance aisle at a Borders in Pasadena and the gorgeous cover of Lady of Light and Shadows caught my eye. I picked it up, found out Christine Feehan endorsed it, and brought it home to enjoy. :)
If I recall correctly I discovered them on Amazon. One of my favourite ways of finding new books is by leapfrogging through peoples lists, reading their reviews and randomly choosing books on the 'other people bought these books' lists. If the blurb is interesting and the reviews indicate it might be a book to my taste I then look into samples/excerpts. I found your book that way. I downloaded the excerpt and liked what I read so I bought the book. Found lots of my favourite authors that way.
I learned about the Tairen Soul series in a roundabout way in early November 2007. I had just finished Sharon Shinn's Archangel series and was looking for something similar to read so I was reading recommendations on amazon.com/ca of books similar to hers. Somehow I ended up reading reviews on LoFL and that the second book, LoLS had also just been released.
The premise sounded interesting so
I went to my local Chapters bookstore and decided to check them out. Well, I started reading the first few chapters of LoFL right then and there and I was hooked! I ended up buying both books and spent the next two days or so devouring them.
KoSS was just as good and I am really looking forward to reading QoSS - the little snippets from it each day are just killing me and I can't wait to read them in context!
My Mom had just finished reading Lord of the Fading Lands and told me I must read it NOW! lol She lent me her copy, and within the first few pages I was hooked. :0)

The first time I heard of the series was from Christine Feehan’s website. Her wording of “The best book I’ve read in years” intrigued me. On her website she had a little blurb that said if we try only one new author this year (2007) to make it C.L. Wilson. This was in the summer of 2007 so they had not yet been released, I put them in my spreadsheet and purchased the first one “Lord..” on it’s release date. I’ve never looked back since and I certainly don’t regret taking the advice. I don’t usually pay attention to what one author says about another author, it was definitely the wording of her praise.
Your books are not only a great read the first time around, but they can and are enjoyed over and over again.
A year and a half ago I was hospitalized for a blood clot in my leg at the end of my first year of university. I was in the hospital for 10 days and in those days a couple of my roommates from residence brought me a book to read, thinking that it looked like the kind I liked to read. This book was Lady of Light and Shadows. At this time I thought it was a stand alone, and even if it wasn't I was in no position to go get the first one as I could barely walk. I put off reading it for a few days, just so that I could have something to do once I ran out of things to do, but when I got into it, I read it through the night because I couldn't put it down. My first thing I wanted to do, once I got out of the hospital, was track down a Copy of Lord of the Fading Lands, which I did and devoured it as well. Now I'm anticipating this new book on the level I was anticipating the fourth twilight book.
actually the cover of LOLS caught my eye:) i read the back and was instantly hooked. (i love romance novels that include transforming into animals) after the first few pages i realized it was a series so i stopped reading it and started looking for LOFL. i couldn't find it:O (without driving long distances) so i i ordered LOFL off of amazon.com. while i was waiting for it i HAD to continue reading LOLS. the day i finished LOLS, LOFL came to my door:)) so then i read it. LOVED THEM BOTH!!! now that KOSS is out i have read them all at least 3 times:) (im such a nut) can't wiat until QOSS comes out!!
I was in the grocery store and paused by the book rack looking for something interesting to read. I saw Lord of the Fading Lands and it looked good. I read it non-stop and went looking for more. I've been anxiously waiting since for Book 4 to be published!! Can't wait!
Well, I was complaing to DH one midnight that I had nothing to read which really means nothing new to read. So we went to the grocery store which is the only place in town open 24 hours that has books. I got a romance novel there, and a teaser for Lord of the Fading Lands was in there. I was instantly caught by the story, and that even in those few pages the characters had personality. They felt like people, not vehicles for the romance. Plus, I love fantasy and it seemed like an interesting world. The worst part was the release date was still a month or two away. It took some trying, but I got the first book, and here I am!

I was browsing the book section at walmart and I saw this beautiful cover so i picked it up off the shelf it was Lady of Light and Shadows, I read the back and it had all the things i love magic and romance especially. So i took it home, I devoured it and less than 12 hrs later i was combing the walmart shelves looking for Lord of the fading lands only one left and it was mine, been hooked ever since. I think a beautiful cover can really help sell a book, it catches the eye with so many to choose from its the first thing you see.
was at borders book store lokking for new books pick up the fist book-read it the same night and was hooked
I first discovered the books through Amazon, I go through the lists of what other people have bought and then check out the website's of the authors that have caught my eye. I think it was the book cover for either Lord of the Fading Lands or Lady of Light and shadows that caught my eye here , and I noticed that there was a small kind of review by one of my favourite authors- Christine Feehan, saying that the book was a the best book she'd read in ages and so I decided to give the fadin lands a try (and ended up getting all three of them for my birthday!!)
I discovered the series by accident. I was at Walmart looking for the Nocturne monthly books; and the cover of LADY caught my eye. I almost didn't buy it - but lucky for me I did! I fell in love with the story; and bought LORD; and then I started waiting for KING...
I was reading a book by Christine Feehan and it had an excerpt for Lady in the back of it. I read that excerpt and have been hooked since.
Actually I was just window shopping in the book isle at Wal-Mart. I saw the cover and grabbed the book. Read the back and knew I had found a winner :)

I was reading Sleuth's Ink Mystery Writers Blog, linking and reading some of the blogs followed on that site and someone lead me to your website. Looking forward to reading your books.
I discovered the TS series from an excerpt of LOFL in the back of a Christine Feehan book (can't remember which one). I read it and was hooked!!
It was right after KOSS came out, so I read the first two and wanted to get KOSS to read on a trip. I ordered it from amazon, but it didn't arrive before I left, so on the way to the airport I made my husband go to a B&N to buy another KOSS. I had it finished before our plane touched down at our destination.

I went to Barnes and Noble to buy a bunch of romance novels for my friend for her birthday. I asked the Theresa, who is pretty much knows all romance novels, what some good series were. Needless to say, I ended up buying 5 books for my friend and 6 for me, and I kept The Lord of the Fading Lands for my self.

Every October is "the dreaded season" er I mean "hunting season". my hubby is an avid hunter. However the year Lord came out was his first year where he spent weekends away hunting because the land is over an hour drive to get there. So I was looking for something to read - because I don't sleep well when he isn't here. It must of been in November that I picked up that very cool looking cover book to Lord at Wal-mart. Yeah I'm shallow LOL. Thought hmmm. Read it straight in one setting. Went back to Wal-mart at 7am the next morning and got Lady. Finshed both books in 2 days. As of now i haveread Lord and Lady 3 times and King twice. (just reread all 3 to get ready for Queen - I am so not right LOL, but Amanda gets me)
I picked up the second book actually from my friend's house. She was moving and had too leave most of her books behind and although she was sad she knew I loved to read as much as she did. I was looking through the books when Lady of Light and Shadows caught my eye. I am a huge romantic fan and was immediatly interested so I sat down and started reading it right there and then. The entire book took me about half an hour to finish and I loved every word of it. So (after I was done cleaning up the rest of the books and clothes my friend left me) I went home and researched the book online because I was very dissapointed that I had read the second one first.
After finding the first on Borders I ordered it and then procedded to read the first and then the second book again. I have been keeping up with the series and own all the books so far.
Keep it up! We all love your writing~
From the girl who is currently awaiting the Queen book anxiously,

I discovered the Tairen Soul series via my Mum... She was really excited after reading the first book and told me it was I book she thought I'd enjoy.
So I borrowed her copy of Lord, and then after reading Lord I had to find out what happened next and so I waited (impatiently) until she'd finished reading Lady so that I could borrow that too...
And then ended up buying my own copies as I didn't want to give back Mum's copies!
I called Dorchester to order some books for my store, and the nice woman I spoke to sent me some others to try based on what I had ordered. She particularly urged me to read the Tairen Soul books, so I did. We chatted quite a bit--I think she was a senior person in sales. I have felt guilty ever since that I have not been able to order more books from Dorchester--b/c of the economy and me switching my store location and having to build up traffic again.
I was wondering the book aisle at the local Walmart when the cover for LoL&S caught my eye. I picked it up, saw that Christine Feehan endorsed it, and so read the blurb in the back. I realized it was a 2nd book in a series and, luckily, managed to find a copy of LotFL on the shelves.
I got "Lord.." and devoured it that night. I went back to Walmart the next day to buy "Lady..". And then, I waited impatiently for "King..". So glad that Walmart had one copy of "Lord" left, otherwise I may have never read the series!

I was at a Fred Meyers store last February (it was a different Fred Meyers then we noramlly go to so I was lucky that I saw it. Checked later ours didn't have have your book)I was glancing through the books why mom was picking out a vacuum and the cover of Lady of Light and Shadows caught my eye.I picked it up and it sounded interesting so I decided to check out the reviews for it on amazon.com when I got home. After reading the reviews I decided it sounded good so, since my birthday was coming up I put Lord of the Fading Lands on the list of presents I wanted with a handful of other books I really wanted (I'm a college student so I buy nearly all of my books used). I got it for my birthday and read it first and was immediatly hooked. After finishing it I went out and got a copy of Lady of Light of Shadows and have loved the story ever since.

I've been a Dorchester book club member since 2007. I receive two books a month from either the Love Spell or Leisure imprints. I'm rarely disappointed by books I receive and look forward to a new shipment every month. I read the sample chapter of Lord of the Fading Lands when it was published as a preview and really liked it. I've recommended the Tairen Soul series to everyone I know who enjoys A) romance B) fantasy C) excellent fiction. It's hands down the best romance series I've ever read!
I wanted to get reconnected again with the more fantasy focused authors and I started searching...I followed my nose to your website and clicked on the link where the world/language and stuff is explained and my heart just started to beat a bit faster.
Lord of the Fading Lands, the info on the website here, it all sounded exactly what the doctor had ordered :)
I'm a fan of Christine Feehan and she endorsed King of Sword and Sky on her website and there was an excerpt in the back of one of her books. I read the excerpt and was hooked.
I was in Wal-Mart looking at the covers of books and I saw King of Sword & Sky, I read the blurb on the back and I had to have it. They didn't have the first two books on the shelves at Wal-Mart so we had to make a quick stop at Barnes & Noble for me to pick them up. Hardest books I ever had to put down to go to bed.
I am always fascinated by the "fish out of water" concept whether that is paranormal creatures, psychic beings, people from other worlds or just plain old human beings trying to make their way in a country or culture that is not native to them. I was intrigued when I read the back cover about the so-called human fragile Elle and the powerful Tairen Soul. To top it off I saw the comment by Christine Feehan and I had to give it a try.
I first learned of the series through an exceprt printed in the back of a Christine Feehan novel. Being the avid reader and bookworm that I am, I read the excerpt and loved it. I pre-ordered the book Lord of the Fading Lands over a month in advance. :-D
Amazon put LoFL and LoLS on my recommended for you page. Their program has been pretty good at giving me other reads since I do keep up with rating the books I buy and read. Loved them!
Thank you so much Cheryl for the poster. I said to my hubby this morning that I would want to win the poster of Lord of the Fading Lands because it was the first and in my opinion the best of the bunch.
Thank you!
Lynn
To put it quite bluntly, what caught my eye in a Barnes and Noble book isle was the great big black panther. I've always been a fan of shape shifting novels, as well as those of cats so I immediately picked it up and read the blurb on the back. I wasn't a biggie on the romance genre at the time, but with the air of fantasy to it, I decided to give it a try. Today, all I read is romantic fantasy so I owe it to your novels for introducing me to that genre.

I was at Borders bookstore looking for a book to read and I just happened to pick it off the shelf. I read the back cover and a few pages in the book and thought it sounded interesting. I'm glad I bought the books. It turned out to be one of my favorite series. I can't wait for the next book.

I discovered the Tairen Soul series through a review at the web site, "Smart Bitches, Trashy Books". It was a great review and I bought the first two books at the same time. It has been love ever since.
I first heard about Lord of the Fading Lands at Dear Author. It sounded like just the kind of book in which I loved to lose myself. How could I resist reading the first book for myself? Have excitedly followed the series ever since.
Don't remember where, but I heard about your books on the internet somewhere, maybe even Christine Feehan's group, liked what I read and put on my wishlist. Or, might have been checking upcoming releases for Dorchester Lovespell Club.
I discoved your book through Christine Feehans website then I entered your buzz campaign and have never regreted it. Your books are AWESOME
Saw the first one on the shelf at Borders and thought it looked interesting...and it was VERY good!
I discovered the book when I went to my mother-in-laws house, I borrow books from her all the time. The cover of the books caught my eye. I read the first 3 books in three weeks. I couldn't put the books down. Now I have my sister-in-law reading them and my work can't wait for the next book to come out because I give them the count down.
Mid-Novermber, 2007. I was about a week off from taking a trip to Scotland for five and a half months to be with my [now ex, sadly] boyfriend. I love reading, and needed books for the 24+ hours I'd be flying or in the airports. I was in Superstore, looking around the books for any new Nora Roberts, or something new to try...and lo and behold, I stumbled upon LOTFL and LOLAS.
Read the backs, and went "Ouuuu, this could be good." Picked it up, and I was finished the first one by the time I'd landed in Glasgow. Made fairly short work of the second, and I re-read them once more on the duration of my stay, and I managed to storm through both on my return trip. Those two books are well-loved, let me tell you. :'D
...I should probably get new copies...they'd be in better condition~
I was grocery shopping at Walmart and found Lady of Light and Shadows. The cover caught my eye and since they still had Lord of the Fading Lands, I thought "why not" and bought both of them to read.
-PW
I found by accident at Border's. I was captivated by the cover for Lord of the Fading Lands-so I purchased it. Now I am hooked-I am very anxious to finally get to read the next book. I have never been so involved in a sequel-movie or book-it's an amazing story and I hope you do write the stories about the other characters-I will be getting all of them.
I saw it in the bookstore and saw that Christine Feehan. I have tried books she recommended before and loved them so I thought I would give this one a try as well.
was looking at a christine feehan book at borders, someone had put your 1st book there by mistake.
i sat down and read the first three chapters and then bought it.....
unfortunetly they are hard to find over here so thank you amazon.
now reading the series for the 10th time..
I was trawling through another author's website (Nalini Singh) and discovered your name on a list of good books to read if you enjoyed Nalini's work.
As I had read and enjoyed most of the other authors on the list, I searched for your website, read an excerpt and decided I definitely wanted to try 'Lord of the Fading Lands'.
- Kate M
I think I either saw a review at Smart Bitches, Trashy Books, or perhaps the Suvudu blog linked to the excerpt from Lord of the Fading Lands?
In any case, I read all the excerpts, but since the hold list at my local library was so long, I had to wait about 4 months until I moved for my new masters program, and I could borrow them from the public library here! I totally scoped them out months in advance, and I got my library card within days of moving just so I could borrow them! (but I am buying the latest - already ordered it and everything. ;)
Hi C.L.
Actually I can't remember where I first saw it mentioned, it may have been on my Amazon's recommendations for me page. But you are a new to me Author and I'm glad I found you. I'll have to pick up the first two because I love to read them one right after the other. Thanks for the opportunity C.L..I also chat with the Chatelaines. Countdown is getting there. How exciting. :)

found it browsing and seen christine feehan like it so i got it
I was introduced to them at RAW 07 when they were giving out arc of the first book. After reading I had to find the others. Loved this series.
The best I can remember, I had read on a bulletin board that Christine Feehan was promoting a new author who sounded fantastic. I went to Feehan's site and found my way to your site and read the excerpt and was totally and forever hooked. And it took FOREVER for Lord to be released! LOL Now I feel that way about ALL the books!
Crikey. I forgot to post my comment. I wrote it and left it at work. Lame.
I will post it tomorrow, in a belated sort of way. I don't like trying to rewrite myself.
Short version: Picked up Lady of Light and Shadows at Goodwill, attracted by the cover and the blurb.
Never heard of it before, had never even read paranormal romance. But I like fairy tales, and it looked like it had the feel of one.
I first discovered this series in the back of a Christine Feehan book. There were about 40 pages to a book called LOTF. I was completely captivated and hurried on to my computer to find out all the information I could. I found out that the book would come out in September and it was April at this time so I had a six month wait ahead of me. I am not a Patient person. I when to my local bookstore on the day that it was to come out only to find that there were no copies available, but that was because I was a day early. It has been a wonderful journy and I can't wait to begin the next chapter.
A very good friend of mine recommended it saying was the best series she ever read. And it is up there in the top, keep up the great work!
mak...
I first stumbled upon the Lord of the Fading Lands on my Library's New Reads announcements... it looked intriguing and different from the other stuff out there... after reading it, I was hooked... I ended up buying a copy for myself and have followed up with the next two books. They sit on the bookshelf by my bed along with other favorites :D
Oooh, a friend from Shelfari recommended your books to me... if I remember correctly, it was Vampires Forever and Always! How would I survive without Shelfari? *sigh*

"I chat with the Chatelaines."
Someone gave me a copy of Lord of The Fading Lands. I was intrigued and started looking for the rest of the books. I read a lot of different genre and am willing to give almost anything a try. It was different from what I'd read up to that point. I help order books for our small library, so I'm always looking for new series. Patrons are always asking for suggestions on what to read, so even if a book doesn't end up on our shelves, I'll recommend it to someone I think might enjoy it.
Actually, WalMart (WalMart rules the world next to Opera) held a realm of new books that I always take a look at to see what grabs me. Upon searching the rows for my other favorite author, Christine Feehan, I stumbled upon her name upon the cover of some really beautiful artwork. I scanned the back and liked the comment by Feehan to read the novel. But I wasn't sure. I put it down, walked around fo an hour then found myself back holding it in my hands again and low and behold, next to its stack was its sequal, Lady of Light and Shadows. I decided to jump. I bought both and ran out and into my friend's car. As she drove us home, chattering about life, I was already in the first chapter and so astounded by the piece I never stopped reading.
I remember looking thru amazon for something good after I had just read my first paranormal romance, and I was hooked. I looked at some of the recommendations and seemed to keep comming across the LOFL title, I decided to try it out and could not put it down from the second I began to read. I have never ever liked a book, or series as much as I Love these. I have waited each time counting down with no patience whatsoever, for the next, praying that some crazy misfortune didnt occur before I got to read it. now thats when you know u have an infatuation....LOL your worried about not living long enough to finish a series. LOL
Melissa D
I forgot to tell u i chat with the chatelines.lol
I read the first chapter of Lord of the Fading Lands in the back of Christine Feehan's Dark Gold and found it fascinating and intriguing enough to put it on my upcoming book list, then of course I bought it when it came out. I check out your website and the rest is history.
You were on Christine Feehan's list promoting, and we decided to have a discussion on the LotFL when it came out. I never ever looked backed. LOL
Oh , it finnally hit me, it was at Emily Bryan's blog where I saw it as well.

Day 19 is now closed for new entries. Winners to be selected soon.
Day 20 blog is now up - with two fabulous new prizes!! Good luck!!
MY ORIGINAL COMMENT:
I believe I mentioned this in one of my previous comments.
I was doing a quick run through Goodwill, looking at all of the books, because this Goodwill was in the process of moving. I often go through the books looking for new and interesting things to try, because the books are usually very inexpensive, and you never know what you are going to find.
It appeared that someone had recently dumped a load of paranormal romance novels, which I had never even heard of, so I was reading a lot of the backs of them. They seemed to deal mostly with vampires or time travel. Mostly they didn’t appeal to me, but I came across Lady of Light and Shadows and was immediately attracted by the cover.
I have a thing for fairy tales, and this looked like it might be a fairy tale retelling, or have the feel of a good fairy tale. I liked the font of the lettering. The girl on the cover had curly red hair, so that was a plus for me. Then I read the blurb on the back, and it sounded interesting and “epic” and I like good fantasy. The only thing is I wasn’t sure if this was part of a series or not. The back did not make it entirely clear whether or not this book was related to the other book they were mentioning on the back.
I don’t know whether I would have picked it up if I had known it was the second book (I like to read things in order). I did figure it out by the time I got through the first chapter, but by then I was hooked, and it was too late. I went back the next day to the Goodwill to see if maybe the other books were there, and I had missed it (my husband had rushed me!), but the books had already been transferred to the new store which wasn’t open yet.
So I went to Barnes & Noble, and they didn’t have ANY of them. Boo!
So I ordered them from Amazon used books, along with some Glynnis Campbell books I had been putting off.
And wouldn’t you know it, I got King of Sword and Sky first! So I read that one. And then, FINALLY, I got Lord of the Fading lands, and I read the whole thing from the beginning in the correct order.
I picked the book for two reasons: the cover, and the indication of good high fantasy. If the books had not indicated they were romance novels of any type, I still would have picked them up based on the fantasy elements that were described.
It was on a feature at Barnes and Noble. I picked it up, and read a few pages. I really liked the creativity and culture development; especially the translations in the back of the book. It reminded me of a more romantic "Lord of the Rings" by J.R.R. Tolkien.
