Only one entry per person per day will be counted. Personal information will remain private, will only be used to contact the weekly winner(s), and will be discarded thereafter.

1. The Princess Bride - this is a classic, I think. I love the humor.

2. Pretty Woman - I like the romance, and I love Julia Roberts.

3. The Saint - my favorite Val Kilmer movie. Love the action, and all the disguises.

4. Juno - really good acting, funny, touching.

5. Braveheart - I'll admit my husband forced me to watch this the first time. But who wouldn't love men in kilts, with accents?

Silverado - Kevin Costner is a hunk in this movie, and HORSES!!

Transformers - Not much of a plot but I have always loved the cartoon and it's almost like an auto buy book for me.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun - It's just a fun movie to watch.

Anne of Green Gables - Anything to do with this story whether it be the book or the movie just draws me in.

The Tairen Soul movie - Hey it's not a movie yet, but it would be awesome to see.

I am not much of a fan of movies or tv, I prefer books because I can use my imagination to fill in the scenes. So I figured I would put what I WOULD like to see as a movie as my last pick.

Only 5 ?, my top list includes 10 easily. But here goes !!!

1. McClintock

Western humor with romance thrown in. Amazes me how well the movie portrays the man/woman relationship. John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara at their best. Always makes me laugh.

2. True Lies

Non stop action with humor thrown in. Mystery, deception, and romance. Arnold and Jamie Lee Curtis really click in this movie. The movie works for me because it shows both the dark and light side of marriage and family.

3. Last of the Dogmen

Words can't say how I love this movie. Modern day legend, Native American lore, mystery, and breath taking scenery. Reminds me of The Fading Lands with NA instead of Fey. If you haven't seen this movie, you are missing out !!!

4. Chronicles of Narnia

The best movie based on a series of books that I've ever seen because it stuck so closely to the actual story line. The special affects are awesome. Moral values, good vs evil (don't find that in many movies now days).

5. Speed 1

Love the action, suspense, and romance in this film. Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock are wonderful together (and not hard on the eyes either). That they had to grow to like and respect each other was a plus.

#3, Independence Day: Just love the whole world coming together concept.
#4, Sister Act: What's not to love
#5, Sister Act II: Again, what's not to love.

I also like the Harry Potter movies. Such a good job with the scenery and making the magic happen.
The Fox and the Hound - I saw it for the first time when I was maybe about 9 years old and it's the first movie I ever cried at.
Grease! - watched it over and over and over when I was younger
The Star Wars movies - especially now watching the older ones, they were so cheesy!!

1. Practical Magic - Excellent 'witch' movie. Great cast. Makes me laugh and cry. It's my favorite romantic comedy.
2. Saratoga Trunk - I love Saratoga Springs, NY. This movie shows scenes of old Saratoga. Gary Cooper and Ingrid Bergman are brill!
3. Snatch - I enjoy British films and humor. Brad Pitt is not one of my favs. but he does well in this movie. Serious eye candy in the forms of Jason Stratham and Vinnie Jones. *g*
4. The Breakfast Club - Probably the best 80's movie out there. RIP John Hughes. I listed this one but I love all those good 80's flicks. Especially early movies with Madonna.
5. Rear Window - Hitchcock at his finest. This movie shows his movie making talents. I like how it didn't take a million dollars to create a cinimatic masterpiece. A thriller of the finest order! I enjoy all of Hitchcock's movies.

*These are not in order. I'm having computer trouble and it was all I could do to post my answers. :-)

My top five favourite movies are:

1. The Lord of the Rings trilogy (I count them as one long movie, just like the books).
2. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (while I also love the first two Indiana Jones movies, it's the interaction between Harrison Ford and Sean Connery that makes this movie stand out for me above the others).
3. Pirates of the Caribbean (I love all three movies, so I'm cheating and counting them as one)
4. Pride and Prejudice (again, I'm cheating, since I love both the BBC mini series with Colin Firth and the 2005 Kiera Knightley movie).
5. Anne of Green Gables (but only the first two movies - I HATE the third one!).

5) Gladiator - The music and images are beautiful and the story is so moving.
4) P.S. I Love You - I makes me ball my eyes out everytime. It's about love, strength and life. AndI absolutely love Gerard Butler.
3) Elizabeth - Cate Blanchett is the perfect Queen Elizabeth. Her fierceness, wisdom, and cunning make her one of the most celebrated queens of all time. Also, whoever did the costumes is brilliant.
2) The Lord of the Rings Series (The Two Towers is my favorite) - These movies offer every type of genre and every single emotion. Peter Jackson did a beautiful job.
1) The Boondock Saints - Though this doesn't really fit with the others, the script in this movie is brilliant and it takes two unknown actors and makes heros. This movie also makes you ask yourself if certain types of violence is o.k. Is it okay to kill someone if that person is murderer or drug-dealer, or that the job of some higher power.

Actually this one was a tough one to answer as I really don't get to watch as much films as I'd like.

1. The Lords of the Rings trilogy, the scenary and backdrops to the three are amazing and although not the same as the books it still to me brings out all the run of emotions I felt reading the book - first as a child of nine and then later on over the years.

2. Ma Vie en Rose (My Life in Pink) - this is a beautiful Belgium film about Ludovic - a child who although born male believes he ought to have been born a girl. Georges du Fresne is completely believable as Ludovic and the film shows the struggle over gender identity faced by both Ludovic and his family as well as highlighting the prejudices and fears directed at Ludovic by others.

3. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon - Again beautiful scenary, plus strong heroines. This has remained one of my all time favourites.

4. The Shawshank Redemption - This was one of the first 'adult' films I was allowed to watch and it has always had a place in my heart as a classic.

5. The Matrix - Although I tend to prefer fantasy films, the Matrix is one of my favourite science fiction movies, lots of action and again a strong heroine plus a conflicted, but strong hero.

If I could have a place for a special mention then it would be Pan's Labyrinth which comes a (very) close 6th. It was my first time watching a film directed by Guillermo del Toro and although quite dark is such a beautiful film.

off the cuff, I say mine are:

(1) Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy. A modern film masterpiece. 'Nuff said.

(2) The new Star Trek w/Chris Pine & Zachary Quinto - because it made my children love Star Trek as much as I do.

(3) Ghost (Patrick Swazye) - one of those movies I watched again, and again, and again, and again.

(4) Friendly Persuasion (Gary Cooper) - (did I ever mention how much I luuuuuuuurve Gary Cooper?) This is a fabulous movie about a Quaker family set in the Civil War. i can watch this movie over and over without tiring of it.

(5) Star Wars - changed filmmaking, changed me, sparked my imagination like no other movie ever had.

I'll also mention Hobson's Choice (1954) - a beaut of a B&W film. For those of you who like independent women, rent this film. :) Funny, funny, lovely film.

+ Lord of the Rings Trilogy: Saw it before I read the books, but Peter Jackson did a marvelous job on the adaptations.

+ Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy: Good stuff all around, really. Supposed to be coming out with a fourth one soon.

+ Ever After: A movie I could watch over and over again.

+ Hocus Pocus: |D Favourite Hallowe'en movie, hands down.

+ The Last Samurai: Long movie, but I adore it anyway.

I'm sure I've got more favourites, but I sure can't remember them. Honourable mention would have to be "Blood and Chocolate". Mmm~

It has been so long since I’ve thought about this, I’m sure I’m forgetting everything except my #1 favorite which has been my favorite for many years.

1) Newsies—Wee! Love, love, love. It’s got Christian Bale, Bill Pullman, there’s singing and dancing, it’s based on a true story (except the singing and dancing part). I have the soundtrack, I know all the words, I wish I could speak with a New York accent but I can’t. I love stories about underdogs, about rising above the hand that circumstances have dealt to you, and if there’s a ballad and a tap dance involved, so much the better.

2) Best of the Best—I was raised on martial arts movies. And this one is awesome, because it’s not really just about the martial arts, or fighting crime, or whatever. It’s a drama driven by the characters. It’s got James Earl Jones in it, Eric Roberts, and some really great quotes. As I mentioned, I like underdogs. I like to see people surpass expectations, and realize their full potential. And if you haven’t seen it, spoiler, they lose. But it’s a great movie, anyway.

3) Eddie and the Cruisers Part II—This is not a very good movie. I will admit to that. But I LOVE it anyway. The music, that 80’s/90’s feel, the covered up identity, mystery and love. The lead singer has the same name as my dad, so my dad bought the movies when I was young, and I grew up watching them over and over again. Whoever said familiarity breeds contempt was incorrect. What it breeds is the ability to make obscure quotes from B-rated movies during inappropriate times.

4) The Man in the Iron Mask—I’m not even sure how this got up into my list. But I know I love it. I love the idea of saving the world (or the king), so I know that I’ve always had a soft spot for the Three Musketeers. Friendship, loyalty, duty, swordfights, I’m there. Then when you throw in the added drama of the evil king and his twin brother, you’ve got a great movie. I’m not a big fan of Leo DiCaprio, but I liked him in this movie. Jeremy Irons, cool, of course. I like the way they talk, the slightly formal language, it really lends atmosphere to the movie, and makes for cool quotes. I used one of the songs (The Heart of A King, I think), to walk down the aisle when I got married. No wedding march for me. It was very dramatic.

5) Apollo 13—I love Tom Hanks. Love, love, love. I love space. But I have a special interest in stories that pit man against that vastness and show how really small and fragile humans are in the grand scheme of things. I love that it was based on a true story, so when you watch it you know that real people were making those decisions, the good ones and the bad ones. It shows how people can overcome disaster and work together to accomplish things. And it was directed by Ron Howard, so between Tom and Ron, how can you go wrong? (And every time that scene comes when Tom Hanks’ son is watching the TV at his boarding school, and he thinks the capsule didn’t make it through the atmosphere…I just start bawling. Can you imagine watching your father die on television, without even your family, just your teachers and your classmates? So sad.)

6) A League of Their Own—I haven’t thought of this movie in a long time. But EVERY time it comes on, I watch it. Every time. (Hey cowgirls, see the grass? Don’t eat it.)I love sports, so I love sports movies. Girl sports movies can be cheesy, but this one was so great. It was funny, it was dramatic, there was flair and fun, and again, it was based on a true story. True stories generally mean tear-jerkers for me.

I had six by accident, because I had five, then I forgot one, and didn’t know which one to bump. And I didn’t even get Surf Ninjas or Rocky IV, in there.

While I do indeed love Star Wars, Stargate, Star Trek (as so many of you do)… as a single stand-alone movie, I have to say I still pick these higher.

As I look at my list, I see that I like movies that offer a feeling of liberation. In no particular order:

The Sting - it's so darn CLEVER! You think you know where the plot is going because most movies are predictable, but it uses your expectations to fool you just as the main characters fool the victim.

Dirty Dancing and Mulan - both are about girls finding their own strengths, and both can make me cry.

The Princess Bride and Monty Python/Holy Grail-both draw their comedy from human nature and from tossing out convention on its ear.

1. Princess Bride - the story is fun, the dialog is unbeatable and the cast was perfect.

2. Stardust - another fine fairytale that was perfectly cast.

3. Fellowship of the Ring - Peter Jackson took one of my favorite books and really made it come to life.

4. Star War - its a classic and the story is great too.

5. The Day After Tomorrow - that particular end of the world scenario is interesting and something we should probably try to avoid.

As a movie buff, there are very few movies listed so far that I haven't seen and loved :)

I thought about GWTW - it is a classic. I also thought about Goodbye Mr. Chips, the lead in this beat out Clark Gable's Rhett Butler for Best Actor in 1939. Greer Garson was luminous (she always was)

I thought about Princess Bride - my kids and I can quote this movie (and do). Inconceivable!

i thought about Ever After (the Drew Barrymore version of Cinderella - truly a delightful film)

Considering my DVD collection is multiplying like a cargo hold of wheat-gorged tribbles, limiting myself to five was an impossible task. Of the 5 i mentioned, thought, Ghost is probably the only one I'd consider replacing...I just don't know what with. :p

4.ghost-

3. Anne of Green Gabels-
I was hust a kid when I saw this for the first time and remembering I wished I live in that time... carefree and kindred sprits.

2.National treasure-
I loved the way I felt went they found the tresure at the end. It was a feel good movie. I could watch 50 times in a row and never get board.

1. 10 things I hate about you.
I know this isn't on most people favorite but for me when Heath Ledgres charector sings on the bleches it is my favorite spot in any movie. It makes me smile and warm and fuzzy inside. i miss that actor...

1) The Matrix - one person with superhuman powers out to defeat an "army" of villains;

2) Under Siege - same theme here except that he was a Navy Seal, not Superman

3) Speed - do you see some commonality in the movies that I like?

4) Miracle - underdogs who went on to defeat an almost invincible powerhouse; very great motivational movie

5) Independence Day

What can I say? I like action movies where forces of "evil" are defeated by a single or handful of people.

4) Resident Evil - Sexy chick destroys zombies!

3) North By Northwest - Romance and intrigue. Direct by Alfred Hitchcock. I love Cary Grant in this film.

2) Pride and Prejudice (any version) - I watch this movie when I'm ill. Nothing makes me feel better.

1) A Room With a View - It's all about the historical details for me. Nothing was spared in this lush Merchant/Ivory production. The acting is superb, and a young Helena Bonham Carter captured the spirit of Miss Lucy Honeychurch.

This is a very evil question and the only way I could do it was imagining that I only had room for 5 movies on some portable object that I was taking into solitary confinement for a month (then I would be released and get to see all the rest of my favorite movies!).

I would take:

84 Charing Cross Road: 2 people who love books and reading (with one being Anthony Hopkins!)

Same Time, Next Year: yes, its adulterous but it is still an awesome love story

Independence Day: You gotta see the humans saving the earth occasionally

The Nun's Story: It was hard to pick out only one Audrey film

Victor/Victoria because you got to have a musical.

I chat with the chatelaines.

In no particular order.

The Princess Bride - I didn't actually discover it till about five years ago. I immediately understood why so many people still love it. It's hopelessly romantic and funny to boot. It's just a classic and one of my faves.

Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring - My favourite of the books and my favourite of the films. It just had everything in it and I still love it now as much as I did the first time I saw it.

Stranger than Fiction - One of the few movies that I can stand Will Farrell in. It's heart warming and funny and I just love all of the characters in it.

Serenity - You can't stop the signal! I adored the series and loved the movie even more. A curse on Fox for cancelling Firefly!

Beauty and the Beast - The disney version of course. I became obsessed with this movie the first time I saw it at 13 and still love it today. I love the music and the characters and am still angry at my father for not taking me to see the stage version of it in 1996. :-)

I love old movies. Can I think of any right now? Of course not. So, offhand, here are my choices in no particular order, even though five just isn't enough:
1. While You Were Sleeping - Sandra Bullock and Bill Pullman
2. It's A Wonderful Life - James Stewart (love him!) and Donna Reed
3. Phantom of the Opera (both the 1963 version and the 2004 version)
4. Red River - John Wayne, Montgomery Clift - what a classic!
5. The Glass Bottom Boat - Doris Day and Rod Taylor - I wanted to grow up and be her :)

5. Howl's Moving Castle animated - I love Hayao Miyazaki's work. The art is beautiful and so is the story - read the 3 books by Diana Wynne Jones if you haven't already. And watch the movie with subtitles since the voice acting is so much better in the original Japanese!!

4. The Saint... and Willow - Val Kilmer is really able to play various characters well. He's a hottie in both!! I just couldn't choose between which I movie I like more so I cheated and put both...

3. Princess Bride - "Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die!" Funny movie with great characters. Dread Pirate Roberts is a hottie. (read the book too!!)

2. Labyrinth - David Bowie looks hot in it. I love love love Jim Henson's muppet creations from the movie. Fun music. Great story.

1. Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy - Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow is hilarious and HOT!!

All of these are movies that I do not mind watching over and over and over again. They are on my shelf and I have several that I take with me on my PSP. They make me laugh and when I'm down I just put in a dvd and watch it and find myself feeling better.
I'm only 24, but I still think all those guys are hotties!!!

Hmmm. I don't watch movies all that often. I usually dislike movies based on books if I've read the book first, because they usually change the story for no reason at all. I suppose my favorites would be
1) Spaceballs- I spend the whole movie laughing, and Rick Moranis makes a great villain.
2) The original Star Wars Trilogy. I love the music and I wanted to be Leia. She's a pretty good heroine.
3) Mulan- funny, touching and I'll find myself humming "I'll Make a Man Out of You" for days
4)Bloodsport- one of the few actions I enjoy, despite some 80's cheesiness. I've loved this one since I was a kid.
5) Orgazmo- *blushes* what can I say? You either laugh at it or you hate it.

Darn it, I forgot about Apollo 13. Don't know how since I own it (and we don't own many DVD's). That one would probably bump Bloodsport down my list to number 6.

1) Lord of the Rings trilogy- they were just awesome. Lots of action and eye-candy, what more can a girl want?

2) Underworld trilogy- I <3 vampires and werewolves, and action

3) The Princess Bride - who doesn't want their very own Wesley?

4) Dracula 2000 - it has Gerard Butler as a Vampire, two of my loves in 1 movie.

5) Right now, it's 'Star Trek 2009'. Ask me again next year and it'd probably change. Quinto rocked as a somewhat snarkier Spock and Pine as Kirk was just awesome. Not to mention Karl Urban. The man is just H-O-T, even with a kinda stupid haircut.

1)Seven Brides for Seven Brothers - It is just pure fun.
2)Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade - Ford and Connery are a perfect team. It was the best of the 4.
3)Pride and Prejudice - The A&E version - Understated passion and emotion. Beautifully done.
4)Beauty and the Beast - Disney at its best. I know the soundtrack by heart/
5)Oliver - Wonderfully done - who couldn't love a little boy with the voice of an angel.
Just realized music plays a big role in most of my choices. I do live it.

Hey PW,

I'm a hockey fan, so I loved MIracle, too. Doesn't quite make my top 5, but it's a great story, and a great movie.

speaking of hockey movies...what was that Paul Newman hockey movie -the one with the team that would throw down at the drop of a hat? Slapshot? For mindless violence and laughs, the DH and I love it. :p

I confess, I've watched (and own) virtually every movie mentioned so far. (did I mention i took scriptwriting in college?)

Answering anyway, because it's fun. :D

My top five movies would be (in no particular order, yey indecisiveness):

The Mummy (Rachel Weisz, Brendan Fraser) - Believable romance, non-stop action, comedy, and undead Egyptian priests...this movie has everything, and is wonderfully balanced in spite of it. I love the blossoming of Evie as much as the progression of Evie and Rick's relationship. I totally wanted to be an Egyptologist/archaeologist after watching this, but Evie makes me proud to be a librarian. :)

Soldier - Ah, my first rated-R film (I wasn't 17 when I first saw it, but you're not supposed to know that, shh). I had a full-on crush on Kurt Russell after seeing this, even if he only spoke like, ten words total. Watching him learn about family and love after decades of abuse never fails to make my heart grow three sizes, and the fight scenes and sets built are amazing.

英雄 (or Hero in the USA) - Easily the most gorgeous film I've never seen—in my eyes, this movie is a work of art. The cinematography and attention to detail leaves me speechless, every time. And not only is it pretty to look at, it also makes you think! The plot is tricksy enough to require your full concentration at all times. 英雄 is definitely a movie you'd need to watch several times in order to fully absorb it, but that's hardly a burden.

Pride & Prejudice (BBC version) - Um, Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy. Clearly, nothing more needs to be said.

Pitch Black - I'll be the first to admit that I find Vin Diesel hotter than the sun, but that isn't the only reason this little horror/sci-fi flick made my list (I swear). His portrayal of the ultimate anti-hero, his sheer force of character, is nothing short of amazing. Besides, it says something when the studio okays sequels based singularly off of the anti-hero's unexpected popularity.

...Apparently, I have a guy's taste in movies.
