QUEEN Countdown Day 12

"All were heroes that day. We just happened to be among the few to survive it."

It's October 12th, Day 12 of our QUEEN OF SONG AND SOULS release countdown!

Days until the release of QUEEN OF SONG AND SOULS: 15

We are counting down the days until the release of QUEEN OF SONG AND SOULS, book #4 of the Tairen Soul quintet. Each week, I'll be choosing winners to receive an autographed copy of QUEEN, so don't miss out!

How to Enter!

There are two ways you can win!

(1) Join the CL Wilson Announcement List. A winner will be drawn from the announcement list each week.

(2) Read the daily countdown blog here on Blogging the Fading Lands, and post a response to the "Question of the Day". Each Tuesday, I will choose a winner from the posters for that week. For each daily blog that you respond to, you earn one chance to win. (Multiple comments to the same blog still only count as one "chance to win".)

Once you post a comment, email feyreisa@live.com with your

(1) name,
(2) mailing address,
(3) email address, and
(4) the name you posted under (please sign your post if you post as "anonymous")

If I do not receive your information, your response to today's blog will *not* be entered in the weekly drawing.

Only one entry per person per day will be counted. Personal information will remain private, will only be used to contact the weekly winner(s), and will be discarded thereafter.

Winners Announced Tomorrow!

Today's post--which will remain up and open for comment until 9am Oct 13th, Eastern Time (GMT -5)--is your last opportunity to enter for the Week 2 QUEEN OF SONG AND SOULS Drawing. I'll be selecting one winner from the Announcement list and one winner from the blog commenters.

Question of the Day:

Name your top five favorite authors of all times.

There is no order to my list as they are all number one to me. My worst nightmare would be a release date for each of these authors on the same day. Hopefully, such an event would never occur.

Your books are on the top of my list at the moment. When I tell my friends about them, I tell them they are my Harry Pottr books all grown up. I have the same sense of being pulled into a completely different world with these books. I actually feel that with all these authors which is why I love them so. I love the Chronicles of Narnia and His Dark Materials. They are rival books somewhat, but I enjoyed them both very much. And of course who doesn't love the Twilight series. I mean really!!

Stephanie Laurens

There is no particular order here. And there are a lot more names I would like to add to the list. And I'm sorry but there had to be six. I read these books over and over and over and over again and can't wait until the next release, I don't even have to know what it's about, I'm buying it.

As a side note, I bought 11 new books last week. Brand new books. This is all for your fault Ms. Wilson as I found most of them by searching the Chatelaines blog and the writers at play blog.

All of these authors wrote books that I can read over and over again. Often I love one book in particular so much I have to buy many copies because I wear them out! I think I'm on my third copy of some of the Tairen Soul series already; not to mention my fifth copy of Anita Diamant's "The Red Tent"!!That makes them "top" favorites, but I have many more authors who have books I adored but aren't the greatest re-reads. :)

It's okay if I'm not a "top author of all times" for you - honestly :p And you all are making my head swell putting me in the company of some of the names you're naming!

Mine are (sheesh this is hard! I have to go by "body of work" instead of favorite books)

Christine Feehan
Nora Roberts / JD Robb
Lisa Kleypas
Jennifer Roberson
Tanith Lee
Anne McCaffrey

Sheesh I'm a cheater...I squeezed Anne McC in there as a sixth. I need to read more Sharon Shinn, because I adored her Angel series so much. And Anne Bishop is right up there. (I need to track these women down and tell them i love their work.)

1) Tamora Pierce (she is the first writer who truly inspired me as a young girl).
2)Amelia Atwater-Rhodes (another inspiration as she published her first book at the age of 14 and wrote about vampires.)
3) Christine Feehan
4) C. L. Wilson
5) Sherrilyn Kenyon
I felt the first two needed an explanation because I do not read much from either author these days. I still enjoy Pierce's books but they are released less frequently. As for Rhodes, I simply can not relate to or enjoy her later works. That isn't meant to be critical just stating a personal opinion. The other three are in order of who I read first. Though only five were asked for I feel I must mention Robin McKinley as well because she was as important to my young adulthood and Tamora Pierce.

They are in order that I discovered them (from age 8-9 until two years ago), but I adore them all equally. Cheryl, your books hold an especially dear place in my heart, because they combine my love of fantasy and my love of romance in an exceptional way!

I have other authors whom I really love as well (such as Jane Austen, L. M. Alcott, O. R. Melling) but these are the ones I reread regularly.

Now I know why we think so much alike, it’s because we read the same authors.

In approximate order of favorite:

1) Anne McCaffrey (the Pern series, followed very very closely by the Tower and the Hive series). She was the first author to get an entire shelf all to herself.

2) Nora Roberts (she comes really close to tying Anne because I actually read her more often, I just haven’t been reading her as long since it would have been really inappropriate for a 12 year old). She doesn’t really get a shelf because the books rarely stay on the shelf, they end up in piles around my bed or kitchen table or what have you.

3) Orson Scott Card (not necessarily because I love all his work but because if I see his name I WILL stop to look…and my computer is named Ender).

The rest are ties (and I’m sure I’m forgetting some):

Life-changing books: LM Montgomery, Jerry Spinelli, Louisa May Alcott.
Places of honor: Jennifer Roberson, Robin McKinley, CL Wilson, Robert Jordan, Janny Wurts.

(Haven’t read anything by Christine Feehan yet. Was thinking about it since you all like her so much, but now I’m not sure. She might be too dark (can’t handle violent sex scenes). CL Wilson has a few disturbing images, but they tend to be short and not too horrendous. If Christine Feehan is much more than that, I don’t think I can take it.)

And for kicks, my husband’s tops (since I can’t seem to get him to comment on here although he’s read all three of your books, and therefore constitutes part of your audience):

1) Frank Herbert
2) Steven Brust
3) Janny Wurts
4) Thomas Harris
5) Neil Gaiman

Gotta say, kinda funny to see so many authors that grace my own shelves listed here. I agree, it's really hard to pick 5. So, I'll go with the authors that first fueled my book obsession in various genres:

Anne McCaffrey- she started it all- I read "DragonSong" in 4th grade for a book report and there began my book obsession

Nora Roberts/JD Robb - LOVE EVE DALLAS! And, side note, still can't believe how many books she turns out each year. It boggles the mind, truly.

Mercedes Lackey - Magic and Horses, gotta love it. She led me to JK Rowling, Tamora Pierce, S.R. Donaldson, D. Marcellas, and A. Croggon, among others.

Anne Rice - who fed my supernatural creature/vampire obsession and led me to authors like Laurell K Hamilton, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Christine Feehan and Stephenie Meyer.

And Jude Devereaux. The first Romance author I read way back when. I may not have read Palmer, McNaught, Garwood, Krentz or so many others, including Cheryl's Tairen Soul books, without her.

And, who knows, maybe I'll look up some of the other authors listed here and have to go buy another bookcase or two. ;P
