QUEEN Countdown - Day 10

"Though I long ago accepted that my talents were more suited to the drawing rooms of noble society than to battlefields, I have always been a patriot."

It's October 10th, Day 10 of our QUEEN OF SONG AND SOULS release countdown!

Days until the release of QUEEN OF SONG AND SOULS: 17

We are counting down the days until the release of QUEEN OF SONG AND SOULS, book #4 of the Tairen Soul quintet. Each week, I'll be choosing winners to receive an autographed copy of QUEEN, so don't miss out!

How to Enter!

There are two ways you can win!

(1) Join the CL Wilson Announcement List. A winner will be drawn from the announcement list each week.

(2) Read the daily countdown blog here on Blogging the Fading Lands, and post a response to the "Question of the Day". Each Tuesday, I will choose a winner from the posters for that week. For each daily blog that you respond to, you earn one chance to win. (Multiple comments to the same blog still only count as one "chance to win".)

Once you post a comment, email feyreisa@live.com with your

(1) name,
(2) mailing address,
(3) email address, and
(4) the name you posted under (please sign your post if you post as "anonymous")

If I do not receive your information, your response to today's blog will *not* be entered in the weekly drawing.

Only one entry per person per day will be counted. Personal information will remain private, will only be used to contact the weekly winner(s), and will be discarded thereafter.

Question of the Day:

If you could choose any one gift of the Fey as your own (immortality, healing, telepathy, shapechanging, swordsmanship, grace/beauty, speed, etc.) what would you choose and why?

Note to participants: I am posting today's blog early as I will be out most of the day at my writers' group. I will therefore continue to take Day 9 comments until I return from that meeting, so if you didn't have a chance to post on Day 9's blog, now's your chance!

Only one gift? That's hard! But considering my career, I'd have to say healing. To have the ability of not only healing fast as the Fey do, but to also heal with a touch - wow! Grace/beauty and speed would come a close second and third, followed by telepathy, but I don't know if my soul is up to immortality just yet - perhaps a bit more longevity, but only if my family and friends had it as well.

I would pick telepathy as my gift, because to be able to know what someone is actually thinking without speaking would be nice at times. My second choice would be speed, because that would come in handy in my line of work.

Hmmm I think for me personally shapeshifting would be the most amazing, because I would get to see the world from more than one point of view and mindset. However, healing would be the most practical way to go, because I could help others and myself. Tough question all in all.

I think I would like to weave Spirit. That would make somethings easier in life:)

I think, given my job... I would choose speed. Because if you aren't as fast as they think you should be your gone. So yeah mine would be speed :)

This is NOT as easy question as I first thought. I think I would have to choose to weave Earth. That way whatever I wove would be real. If my kids needed clothes or shoes - taken care of. House - no problem. And best of all no going in debt!!!

Healing would be second choice - same reasoning - KIDS. nuf said LOL. and no need of immortality if I can restore youth like Ellie did to her dad Sol :) wonder if that works on sagging areas and er fluffy ones as well?

For me it would have to be healing. Hands down, sure beauty and grace and all other fey magics would be great on their own but healing is kind of all encompasing "she would need fire to draw the heat from the wound. Green earth to heal the damaged flesh. Lavender Spirit to steal away the pain" (KOSAS pg 9)and of course shedalins love. The difference one could make in the world would be great. Im sure the government would keep me under lock and key lol, but to save a life that is gift, there is something rewarding and fufilling about that.

Of all the gifts, telepathy is most appealing to me. How many times do we use the phrase, "I wish I could be a fly on the wall!"? Well, telepathy cuts out that middle man. While still being concerned with privacy issues, I'd love to utilize such a gift to make all my relationships better. While I love swashbuckling drama, I would never want to live by my sword. Telepathy seems the most livable gift to me.

Maybe immortality. Not because I want to live forever, but because I would love to see how our society changes over the years. I read a lot of historicals and as interesting as it is to READ it, how cool would it be to actually experience it and see it for yourself!

I would choose healing. Just imagine Cancer being a thing of the past.... I don't think there could be a better gift than helping people move from sickness to health with a laying on of hands rather than our current methods :)

In my mind, kicking butt > beauty, anyday...so I guess swordsmanship or weaving would do it for me.

Although I've always wondered what shapeshifting was like. ARGH, this question is hard.

It would be cool to be able to shapeshift but I think it would be more useful to have a healing gift. I don't think I would tell anyone though...I would be stealth healer. Save and disappear like all the really good, mysterious heroes...

I'm torn between shapeshifting, because I've always wanted to know what it would feel like to fly under my own power, and weaving magic, all 5 branches, not just healing. I can get very protective of my friends and if I had magic I could use it to protect them and make sure they're safe...also it would just be fun to pull pranks on people like Kerian did with Kelissande in the first book.

I would have to choose shapeshifting, because I always want to be able to fly without having to be on a plane. The second gift I would choose is speed, because I am taking care of two disabled parents and trying to work that I want to get everything I need to get done on time.

Thanks

This is a tough one. Just one hugh? Well I think I would choose health/making others well. That way I could make them live longer, fix everyones brains including my own for telepathy, figure out how to change their gentic code so we could shapeshift ... well you get the picture lol

This is a really hard question. I guess I will go with telepathy. You could do so much with it and I think it would be fascinating to know whether my husband is actually listening to me or not. ;0)

The two I have a hard time choosing between are healing and immortality. Healing benefits people now and would be more personally satisfying, but immortality makes you the keeper of collective wisdom for use in the future, and that might be more important down the road. I've assumed roles analogous to both in my life.

I used to roleplay a semi-telepathic character, and I played it as both a blessing and a curse. If I had a total mind-meld with someone else's thoughts, that would drive. me. bats.

i would choose healing cause i have seen people that need to be healed after they have been in a war and also people how need healing in their lives now.

Normally, I'd be jumping all over telepathy. And yet... love is a powerful force. Could Love be considered a Fey gift? If so I'd take it. The love Ellie weaves with, the deep, abiding love of truemates, the love Gaelen had even as dahl' reisen, for his homeland, his people, and his sister, the friendship between Bel and Ellie. I'd be giving up the other gifts, but with love all things are possible.

Only one gift? Herm.... I would like all of them but given I've had some family members dealing with various health issues lately, I'd have to say healing powers would probably be my first choice (then immortality and of course, telepathy).

Shape changing definitely, I have wished since I was a little girl to be able to change myself into a horse or a tiger. I have always loved shapechanger stories.

I would have to say that Fey magic in general [thus including healing, because, hey, I am a female. ;P]. Of course, I doubt I could spin any killing weaves in this day and age...and I'd even be limited in your book from doing that...but that suits me just fine. e.e;; I wouldn't want to kill anyone. Aside from magic...speed/beauty/grace comes in a cloooooose second. Speed...hmmm... <3 I'd love to be able to run like that.

I flipped between healing and longevity. I think it would be awesome to save a life. However I wondered what I could acheive with my life if I could think in terms of 1000s of years to accomplish the best I could for the world. But since you asked us to choose, I pick the healing mostly because the idea of being able to touch people, plants or any living thing and make them healthy just rocks!

Interesting question, and I, like the others, am torn between two choices.

First, that thing the shei'dalins do. It's called weaving love and compassion, or something like that, but I know that it's not necessarily anything with the five branches of magic, since the men can't do it. I am not the most loving or compassionate person among my friends, family, or even my own house (and there's only the two of us!). I get caught up sometimes in practicality. But the idea of connecting with others on that basic level, and providing them comfort, security, and unconditional love simply by your presence and will is very appealing to me. Though physical healing is admirable, I am more interested in the healing and restoring of the inner person. Love covers a multitude of sins, and I have wished before that I had more of it to give.

The other thing I would choose, and perhaps the one that actually wins out, is the gift of truemating. (I'm not even sure I have to explain this one.) My husband and I are two of a kind, which was an amazement to me, because I honestly didn't think there could be anyone out there who could really GET me. If it was possible for our bond to be closer than it is, I would want that. Total communion, perfect acceptance, one soul shared in two bodies--that really would be a gift.

Hmm that's a pretty hard choice, although I guess I'd most likely choose healing since I could use it to help my loved ones.

Very close after that would be the ability to weave air, as I have a fascination about all things to do with that element.

I wouldn't want immortality though - for the simple reason that I'd hate outliving all my loved ones.

I'd want to weave Spirit, telepathy and illusion. Like the idea of sending and receiving thoughts, controlling others memories and senses, all useful in a variety of ways, danger and otherwise.

I would choose speed simply because no one wants to live forever and I'm happy with the way I look and everything else. I wouldn't want to know what people think, it'd feel like eavesdropping. I would go with speed because I have always loved to go fast. To be able to run so fast I felt like I was flying, would be a joy.

So many wonderful gifts! If I had to choose only one, it would be the ability to weave fire. I'm always cold, and I love to watch fires in fire places and candles burn. It's relaxing.

I think I would like to weave Earth I would never have to go into debt for anything. Telepathy would be a very close second though.I would like to know what others are thinking but I would want to make sure I had an off switch lol.

I think I would choose to have immortality, because I feel like I'm always running out of time! I'm a scientist by trade and always have one thing or another I'd like to look at/test/apply for/etc and there just isn't enough time for me to learn all I want to!

As much as like to heal everyone, i just couldnt devote the rest of my life to just healing everyone.

so be choice between weaving spirit and earth. earth would be so much more practical but have to give the edge to spirit, like to create the illusion of reality that i live in :)

Like so many others, this was actually harder than I would have thought to choose from. I'm not that interested in shapeshifting personally, but that beauty and speed thing would be really cool. If wisdom was a choice, that would be the one I'd take, but since it isn't, I'll go with the gift of healing.

Because I am in school, I am going to have to go with speed. I don't ever have enough time to get homework, housecleaning, or spending enough time with my family in. If i was speedy I might could do it all with time left over.

Very interesting question. Not to mention hard. Being unemployed, weaving Earth would be awesome. Given my imagination, the ability to make it real with Spirit would be cool. And speaking of cool, I'm constantly cold, so weaving Fire would also be cool. And who wouldn't want to be part of a shei'tanitsa?

But right now, I'd have to go with Healing. I've got a furry, four-legged companion of 16 years who is very sick and I'd love to just be able to restore his health.

If I have to choose only one, it would be grace/beauty because I am one of those *lucky* people that often trips over thin air. While knowing Judo has helped keep me from being too injured (we learn how to fall--can breakfalls), it can be very embarrassing to fall, especially if you are on a job interview.
