"Where is the king? Has he been told of my illness?"

It's October 8th, Day 8 of our QUEEN OF SONG AND SOULS release countdown!

Days until the release of QUEEN OF SONG AND SOULS: 19

There are two ways you can win!

(1) Join the CL Wilson Announcement List. A winner will be drawn from the announcement list each week.

(2) Read the daily countdown blog here on Blogging the Fading Lands, and post a response to the "Question of the Day". Each Tuesday, I will choose a winner from the posters for that week. For each daily blog that you respond to, you earn one chance to win. (Multiple comments to the same blog still only count as one "chance to win".)

Once you post a comment, email feyreisa@live.com with your

(2) mailing address,
(3) email address, and
(4) the name you posted under (please sign your post if you post as "anonymous")

If I do not receive your information, your response to today's blog will *not* be entered in the weekly drawing.

Only one entry per person per day will be counted. Personal information will remain private, will only be used to contact the weekly winner(s), and will be discarded thereafter.

Question of the Day:

Where do you get most of your books? (buy new online, used bookstores, library, borrow from a friend etc.)

As much as possible, I buy my books in a bookstore; I love standing there and flipping through potentials until my feet ache. Buying a book online is just not the same to me.

The library was my best friend when I was younger (my parents' finances could only be so indulgent), and I still try to go as often as possible...there's always something interesting to catch my eye. :)

I get all of the books I own from the bookstore. There IS something about looking at all the covers, wading through the descriptions on the backs, that you just don't get if you order them online.

I also belong to an online book club service. Sort of like the library, but you don't have to leave your house. I like it because I can try all different kinds of genres, authors etc. that I might not have. Then we I really love a series, I just buy it for my own bookshelf.

Since I got my Kindle, I buy most for that online. Before that I bought most at the bookstore. We have family outings where we go out to dinner and then to Barnes & Noble - the kdis love it. Don't do our library much as the hours don't work and they don't have a very large fiction selection.

My buying is pretty even between online (paper and digital) and a bookstore (both used and new). Wherever I can get my fix seems to work for me! My family's go to gift for me the past few years has been an Amazon certificate.

I chat with the chatelaines.

I usually rely heavily on the library as a source for books, given that I've needed my money for university and for supporting myself. However, if I come across a book I like in the library, or a book that is next in a series comes out that I like, I make a point of going to chapters and aquiring it.

I usually buy my books at wal-mart, since its the closest place to buy books. I also buy online from bookstores. The library is still one of my favorite places to get books before I buy them, or if I can't buy any at the moment.

I usually buy them new, but have recently started buying Ebooks. I can't borrow from the library because they're never up to date and I never seem to remember to return them on time!

I love to get my books from the bookstore as well. I can spend hours going thru row after row of books just to find that special one that calls to me. Plus, its always a bonus to sit down in the coffee shop thats connected to most of them after you buy your book and have a latte while your reading the first few chapters.

I have bought books online, and even though its much easier, you just don't get the same feel of going into the bookstore yourself :S

I'm very funny about my books. I very rarely buy used books. I usually get mine either at a book store or at Wal-mart.

I've never seen a bookstore I haven't entered :) I love them. I love wandering the aisles, perusing the shelves, checking out the "Coming soon" posters.

When I was younger, i haunted new & used bookstores. (reading 7-10 books a week on a McDonald's part-time wage...used was all I could afford). "Auto-buy / Keeper shelf" authors I bought new (couldn't wait for UBS to getthe newest books from my fave authors), but I still went to the USB to give "new" authors a try first. found a lot of great writers that way.

although I do love libraries, I am not a frequent library customer and never have been because remembering to take books back (or blockbuster movies) on time always ended up costing me $$$. But there is a lot to love about libraries - and when I participated in a local florida library's Festival of Reading, i was so delighted to see all the people in the library -- all the children. Reading! I need to become a "friend of a library" locally, I think, and get more involved.

I love shopping in stores for books, but when i go i always find more than my budget allows, lol. so, I keep a list of the books I'm not able to get that day. Then I'm able to purchase them online later. But once that list runs out, I cant help but have an excuse to be near the bookstore and have time to go in. :P

I do love my new books, I usually buy on line, or get from a friend who is having eye issues right now and can't read them. (I will give them back - Honestly!) But I admit the budget gets tight so I get a lot from Paperbackswap.com, and half.com. And now that I have my Kindle and can do e-books, my review sites a dangerous place. LOL

Well, since I'm an addict.. er enthusiast I have found what works best for my wallet (not my wants though darn it!)

*Most paperbacks - Wal-mart (IF I can wait for them, its usually about $2 cheapereven including tax)

*Amazon.com - only if the books qualify for free shipping. Most of the time esp if you are buying older (not just released) you can find them in their "4 books for the price of 3" specials (again combined with free shipping.

*Rhapsady Book club for my hardbacks :)

*Fictionwise for my ebooks! They have a yearly discount club membership (not free though) and you earn $ toward more books. We call them EVIL Fictionwise because the more you buy the more you earn toward .... yup, more books. Unending circle!! However I have gotten several books "free" that way :)

*oh and the library for those books I want to read am not sure they would be keepers for rereads.

of course i LOVE to go through a bookstore for hours picking out particular novels that "call" to me but usually that's simply not an option for me:( (with 4 little guys at home:) so the brunt of my book buying is done online. although this method isn't even 1/10 the satisfaction i would get in a bookstore...the results are the same. i get my book...and read it during naps, and while my boys are in school:)) or durning those rare moments my husband tells me to go get some "me time" LOL!

As expensive as it can be I usually buy books at Barnes & Noble. The store has been a second home since I was a small child. Now it serves as a quiet escape or reprieve where I read, drink coffee, and meet with friends.

When I had time and was a more voracious reader it used to be my local library. But now since my TBR pile (for leisure/pleasure reading) is pretty slim (QoSS only at the moment due to lack of time) I usually just buy at the local Chapters bookstore. I sometimes also buy used books during the local Children's Hospital book drive if something catches my eye.

The only books I have ever ordered online were the Harry Potter books (US editions) since only the UK/Canadian editions were available here and I had to have both :D.

But I do enjoy browsing amazon.com/ca, chapters.ca and the local bookstores when I have time.

I purchase books anywhere I can get them. I love to read and have since I was a small child. I would ride my bike to the public library during the summer and stay for hours. My parents never purchased us books that I can recall.
I still love to go to bookstores most specifically Barnes and Noble so i can get a starbucks as well as a book. I also am an impulse buyer if a cover catches my attention at any store im in it goes in the basic. Incedentally it was a day at wal-mart when the cover of lord of the fading lands cover caught my eye.
I keep my favorite books on my bookshelf and pass the others on to others.

I love to go to the bookstore, I like to look at the books and read the backs to try to find new authors and I have to have every book in a series when I do find an author I like. For back books that I can't find in the bookstore, I will go online or try to find them in a used bookstore. I never borrow books from anywhere (cause then I would have to return them.) I will order new books online as well if I can't find them anywhere else.

I buy books from the bookstore and I check out books from the library. I also make a lot of suggestions to the library for purchases and they really listen!

I have started to buy ebooks especially some of the earlier titles of my favorite authors. A lot of the time this is the only way you can find some titles unless the author elects to do a re-issue at some point.

Nowadays I buy a lot of my books online (usually via Amazon), which is sad since I used to be able to buy most of books from Independent or Secondhand bookstores.

I miss being able to buy my books from the bookstores, there was something about flipping through books at the local bookstore or the smell of old books and the glee at unearthing a treasure from the secondhand bookstore...

Unfortunately the recession's been pretty cruel to the small bookstore and a lot of those places just aren't around anymore, which in turn has pretty much left Amazon.

I do also visit the library a fair deal though as I borrow books whenever my goddaughter's over so she has a choice of stuff to read.

Somehow this comment has turned into a rather large ramble and so I'll stop here.

I try to buy most of my books at used bookstores (where I end up getting to know the owners and patrons), but, since I'm a broke graduate student, Amazon.com is quite tempting because of its competitive prices.

I ALWAYS buy from Barnes and Noble! My sister works there so I get a great discount. I usually go there, peruse the aisles for a few minutes, then just sit in my favorite aisle as I pull books down from the shelves. I usually end up with about 5 books every time I go. Reading can be an expensive habit :)

I buy them at the bookstore. I'm too impatient to wait for them to arrive if I've ordered them online.

Quick question - Are we supposed to email our personal information every time we post to the blog or just that first time? I only emailed once because I thought that sure would be a lot of emails for Cheryl to go through...

I get them everywhere, online, used bookstores, regular bookstores, and rarely, the library.

I try and take advantage of Amazon's 4-for-3 paperback sales, trying to buy enough to get free shipping. Barnes and Noble (the only big chain bookstore around) is good when I'm looking for something new. I can flip through and they have the widest selection.

I also like Walmart. The selections not that great, however I like the fact I can get about a dollar off the book price. Incidentally, that's where I got Cheryl's first two books. The first looked interesting and at $5.97 wasn't going to break the bank. I loved it so much, I went back the next day and got the 2nd.

Sometimes I get things from the library, but I live in a small town, so the selection's not all that great and they rarely have all the books in a series.

Pretty much always borrow books from the library... put the books on hold then pick 'em up, not just wander and browse through the shelves. I rarely buy the books unless I know for sure that I will have the desire to read them again - or if I do read the book then fall in love with it, I get my greedy lil hands on it ASAP. :)

To the dismay of my husband and my bank account, I buy them new and online. Sometimes ill go to a bookstore if I just can't wait for the book to get delivered, but in most cases i have going out, especially as the closest bookstore is about 35 mins driving each way. Its bad too, cause Ive run out of space on my book shelves, have boxes of books sitting around as well. Dunno waht ill ever do with em all.

I love books. I have, literally, thousands of books. (2000 last time I counted, which was probably 5 years ago, and I KNOW I've got more, because I got married and my husband has a ton of books...which I now consider MY books.) With that kind of library, there's no way i can afford new books all the time.

I employ several strategies for getting my books. I usually only buy new books if I am absolutely desperate to read a book, or if I am treating myself, such as if I got a bonus or a pay raise. Also, if I wait long enough, B&N or Borders might put them on the Clearance or Bargain section, and then it's a great score. (Would you believe I came across Robert Jordan's last novel at the DOLLAR TREE?! It was over a year later, but still, it was hard-back and everything.)

Also, I have several used paperback bookstores I frequent. Especially for authors who I am happy to read anything by (ahem, Nora Roberts), I can pick up several for cheap. (Also, my Regency romance novels.)

Another strategy I use is I go to the bookstores and peruse to my heart's content (I love reading blurbs). Then after I make a list of the ones I want, I exercise admirable control and walk out of the bookstore and buy them online used, or find them elsewhere for cheaper.

Then, just for kicks, I check out the local Goodwill stores. A lot of those books were handpicked by SOMEONE, and sometimes you can come across whole collections that someone just decided to toss.

Incidentally, I was in a Goodwill one day, systematically going through all the paperbacks when I noticed SOMEONE had really had a thing for paranormal romance, because there was dozens of them on the shelves. I scoffed, because the majority of them had something to do with vampires or time travel, and they seemed rather silly. Then I came acroos one book which had a great cover, called Lady of Light and Shadows.

I took it home, stayed up and read it the whole night. Then I literally went back to the Goodwill the very next day, to see if the other ones were there. Sadly for me, the Goodwill was in a moving process, and all the books were gone already.

I never never underestimate the amazing power of finding a great book somewhere by accident. I came across my first Anne McCaffrey book when I was 10, and my brother picked it up at the local Swap Meet. You just never know.

Nothing beats the feel of brand new books stacked neatly on the shelves. Unless it's not paying NSF fees incurred while trying to support your book habit.

I had to laugh at Sunset's post, because I discovered The Tairen Series the same way! Of course I had to go to go online to order the others IMMEDIATELY after finishing the first one.
Since finances are tight, and I read WAY too fast, I try to buy my bookds at the used bookstore, or thrift stores, but inevitably, I find one book in a stimulating series, and have to go online to get the rest !

I try to buy as many as possible in the bookstore, but I like to buy all the books in a series at the same time. I often find that they're missing at least one in a series.

If it's one of the later books in the series, I'll buy the earlier ones in store, and buy the missing ones, plus any additional in the series to get up to $25 of merchandise on-line so that I don't have to pay shipping.
