QUESTION OF THE DAY:

What about the Tairen Soul novels do you like the most? (If you were telling a friend "I really like these books because...." what would come next?)

If you haven't read the books yet, then what is it about the Tairen Soul novels that has piqued your interest?

Where to start first!? I think the richness of the story and characters! They sweep you in and quickly become intimate friends in which you have a stake in the success of their endevors! The more you come to know them thru their story the more you have to turn the page to learn more! One reading is definitely not enough! I have worn out my copies and must now buy new ones! Don't stop bringing us more Fey tales - please! And I know you have no control ove this but Cheryl I hope the publisher decides to put your novels of the Fading Lands on audio book for a whole different perspective on these stories. Thank you so much !

That's a really hard question, I love the way the characters seem so real, when I read the books it's as if I'm a part of the story, the story itself kind of sweeps you away and I have no problem in imagining the places and the people described in the books. I cannot wait to find out what happens to Ellie and Rain in Queen and in Tairen Soul.

I have championed this series to all and sundry. My wording usually follows something along these lines…..

Holy S***, you’ve absolutely got to check out this new author, she is outrageous! This story is completely great fantasy. She gives you what you want when you want it. No stupid characters or character traits ie. No “Stupid women” and No “Callous men”, just a great story that moves at the speed of light. You won’t want to put this one down and no, you can have my copy since you’ll want to read it again and again. Go buy it, you won’t regret it!

Congratulations on the release of QoSS Cheryl!

That is a hard question, so I'll be brief and just say everything! I love Rain and Ellie's story, the subplots, the overall arc of the story, especially the world that you've built and the characters - both large and small!

I've reread Lord, Lady and King numerous times already, yet each time I open them, I'm swept into the world you've created just as if I was reading them again for the first time.

If I were telling a friend about your series, I would say, "You have GOT to read this series. It is seriously amazing. There is magic, and romance, lots of action. There are surprising twists, fascinating characters, and beautiful scenery. It is a world unlike any other you've read about, and you will lose yourself in the story until the very last page."

Hmm what I like most - I like the richness of both scenary and characters in the books, how the Fey are not perfect - like everyone else they are falible, I like the strong characters and how can I not love the Tairen.

It's hard picking out one thing that I like most as there's so much to love about the Tairen Soul series, it's one of those series that you can read and reread and find the same joy in the rereading as you did when reading the first book.

I truly enjoy everything about these novels. The plot and setting are original. C. L. really puts who own twist on things and has a vast imagination. I love the characters and the very principles upon which the Fey are founded. The characters are realistic and people one can related to. Overall they're just a little piece of fantastical Heaven. :-)

My poor husband had to be to work early and he got up extra early to go to walmart to see if the book was on the shelf sadly it was not, not even at lunch time so then we went to borders and was able to find it there its cold here and rainy and im about to turn on the fireplace and curl up on the couch and read. I first got interested because of fey, but it has such an unheard of element into it--essentially a whole new world with the concept of fey!!! I love it!
Secondly, the characters, even Elly's quintet have such depth, they feel so real. I cry with them, I get angry with them, I feel happy with them....I am such a nerd...can't wait to read the 4th installment.

I found Lord and Lady in Barnes and Noble back in December 2007. I was going in for Leg Surgery in January and wanted to be sure that I had plenty of reading material. The cover of Lady caught my eye and I remembered having read an excerpt in the back of one of my favorite authors' books, so I grabbed a copy to read the blurb. It sounded intriguing, but since it was a sequel I had to get the first book too. I ended up spending almost $70 on books and my hubby tried to convince me to put some back, but that wasn't happening.

First off I want to say, I can't wait to get the heck out of work to go purchase this book!!

I would recommend these books because the writing style is excellent, I have never stumbled across a scene that's hard to read in these books yet. The author keeps you on the edge of your seat wondering what's going to happen next. I have never ever ever looked forward to a new book as I do when CL Wilson is having a new book published. The imagery in these books is excellent, you can see the action in your mind as you read. The reader is drawn into the world created by the author and it almost seems like you could look up and see a Tairen flying through the clouds. Etc, etc, etc.

Anyway, I loved the lyrical way the world just unfolded, it was as if I had a private movie playing in my mind, but the real clincher for me is that I have dreams about the story weeks after reading it. That has always been a sign of a great book for me as most a read today and mostly forgotten by tommorow.

I love the magic, and that there are rules to it. It's also building up great drama with Maur and the likely resumption of the Mage War. It has some surprising twists, and I also love the fact that while Rain and Ellie are together, and trying, they still have a ways to go to fulfill the shei'tanitsa bond. Which is good, because something so all-encompassing and requiring such complete and utter trust really shouldn't fit in a few hundred pages. At least not believably.

Oh boy! Where do you get this never ending stash of prizes? You are too generous! I'm picking up my copy tonight from my local bookstore but congratulations on the release.

What I love so much about your Tairen Soul series is that it has a perfect blend of romance and fantasy with a pint of adventure and a pinch of drama. Many other novels with the same approach have either had too little romance that's unsatisfying or such erotic romance that leaves me dissapointed. Rain and Ellie's story have that spark, that perfect blend that leaves me wanting more, that love for shapeshifters and far away romance, that nacent damsel in distress. I just love the emersion you feel with the depth of characters and diversity. Unfortunately none of my friends read this sort of stuff otherwise I would have certainly convinced them to.

When I tell everyone about this series, it goes something like this:

The characters are real and relatable, the story is fantastic, and the tairen are the best part. You can't beat a giant flying cat that's playful and smart, yet will kick @$$ if you piss them off!

Well, okay, so it usually goes more like this:

A shape-shifting king travels to a mortal city in order to save his people, both Fey and tairen (enter short explanation about tairen here). Flash to a young mortal girl being trapped into a marriage she doesn't want by circumstances beyond her knowledge, and introduce the previously mentioned king. Together they must battle good people making poor decisions, bad people making evil decisions, and the darkness in their own souls in order to accept themselves and each other before he is killed in war or by madness. Why wouldn't you want to read it?

I can't wait to get home and read Queen. And I'm trying not to think about the fact that there's a number 5 that I have to wait for!

This is one of the best series ever! I love the characters. It has a focus, but it doesn't forget about all the other people in the world within the book. The stories explore everything you want to find out next, before you even have a chance to wonder "what happened to these people?" It sucks you into the world and every aspect of it. Every action seems so real with a true purpose that you want to see to the very end with all the characters you love and those you love to hate (like Vadim). CLWilson has a magical quality in her writing that paints a great picture of a story you don't ever ever ever want to end.

I love the fact that the characters seem real and alive to me. No one is impossibly perfect (like some sparkly vampires I could name); everyone has their quirks, hobbies, and shortcomings; and they all quickly become dear to your heart.

The fey are a part of you. . . and you pray for their survival - or that part of you will die with them. You rejoice with Bell as light is restored to his soul, you cry for the many lost at the Cathedral, and you want to punch several of the fey council for being blind to the extinction facing fey people because they are too focused on their personal power.

Elly is the sister you always wanted to have, and her adventures and turmoil make you want to hug her tight and shake some sense into her at the same time. Rain embodies all that is good and all that is lost to a soldier through the tragedies of war. Remorse is never far from his heart, but compassion and strength are ever-present in his soul. I find myself praying that they are able to find the happiness they so richly deserve in "Queen"!

What is amazing about these novels is that they contain almost every genre: Fantasy, Romance, Adventure, Mystery, and Historical (kind of). Also, all of the characters are well developed and have their own stories which are woven in really well without taking away from Rain and Ellysetta.
I love these books most for the characters. They may have magic but they feel emotions, fall in love, make mistakes, and face challenges just like us (though their challenges probably shouldn't be compared to those we face). Neither Rain, nor Ellysetta, nor Marissya, nor Bel are perfect - which makes them lovable and seem more real.
These books make me laugh, cry, cringe, shout, and swoon all within less than a 100 pages. I love the ride these books take me on and I'm going to be really sad when the rides over.

It's a great fantasy-romance series with subtlety that fantasy sometimes lacks. People are not just good or bad; they have a variety of weaknesses and motivations. Evil is a slippery slope that allows traffic both ways. The men have dark pasts. Some have been redeemed, some not. The women are both fierce and nurturing. The world is internally coherent and varied with its own history, mythology, and politics. It feels lived in.

What's NOT the best part!? I believe that the purity of such a new idea and the way it's told is simply breath-taking. These characters, these Fey that Lady Cheryl has told us of are so descriptive, and so real they you can't help but fall in love with them. You wish you were a part of that world, knew these Fey and had a part in their tale.

The love and romance sweeps you into bliss and dreams that you could marry a Fey. The brutality of how much Cheryl has thought this up is just mind-bottling! The relationships between Ellie and Rain, of Ellie and her guards, of one Fey to another, of Ellie and the Mages- it's all just so descriptive and real.

The plot and conflicts are event-moving and bring you on this ride that doesn't let you go until the last page is trembling in your hands and your demanding MORE! They're savagely terrorfying, true fear of the Mages and Rain's rage evident in the reader's mind.

And by Gods, the HUMOR. I fall off whatever I'm sitting on when I read these books. The Fey are just simply HILARIOUS. They fight with one another, play jokes on one another. I mean, it's like you're at Thanksgiving with your entire family! And....and it really makes you wish these WERE your family. It would be so enthralling to be around them. And really....these people ARE your family. However you look at it, you can find traits of them in your own life.

I want to send my GRATITUDE and pure THANKFULNESS for Lady Cheryl to share her tales (and her dreams) with so many people. I can't wait for MORE and hope it is as THRILLING for others and Lady Cheryl as it is for me.

When I started telling my best friend who now lives in Japan about the books I was gushing about how much she would love the characters and the story. I kept telling her that once she started reading she wouldn't be able to put down the book until she read it cover to cover. I absolutely love the originality and thought put into the story and world!!
...I frequently mail packages of books to Japan and when I put the Tairen books in for her to read she e-mails me the moment she gets the package and then immediately after finishing with her comments/thoughts :)

My favorite thing about the books is how richly detailed they are. Whenever I read them, I feel like I'm leaving this world and entering the Fey world and really meeting the characters and living their lives.

I've read so many books that had so much potential in the beginning, but then the author rushed to finish them and I'm left wanting so much more. That's never a problem with these books...the story's always leave me fulfilled and clamoring for more!

That's what I basically tell my friends, especially those who are reluctant to try out romance novels - "This author is amazing! The storylines are actually storylines..not just pure smut!" :)

As others have said, where to begin?? When I know a book is really good is when A. I want to read it over an over again and B. I put off things I should be doing in order to read it (ie. homework! bad!!). The Tairen Soul novels do both of these things (Oh, why was Queen released right around midterms?? haha)

What I really love about the Tairen Soul novels is just the extent the world and characters are realized. You don't realize it at first, because it is so masterfully done, but traditions and languages and characters draw you and create such a realistic place. I love how little things early on play out later and when you re-read you go, I can totally see what's happening here now!! Such an exciting feeling, but also a kudos to the author that puts such thought into a book.

I also love the journeys the characters go on. So often in books you only get to see brief glimpses of characters, but in the Tairen Soul all the characters have such journeys. Ellie has transformed from shy woodcarver's daughter to Fey queen and I love witnessing that journey. Also, the fact that some of the more minor characters are also fleshed out, like Talisa being Adrial's shei'tani. I love little things like that.

All in all, I guess when I tell people about the books I really talk about reading King for the first time. It was during school and I had an 8 am class the next day, however I couldn't put it down. As I got closer and closer to the end I got sadder and sadder thinking it was going to be over. I think I finally finished around 4 am (skipped Psych that morning!) and went online right away to see when the next book was going to be released. I was so drawn into the story that didn't ever want it to stop. That's certainly the tragedy and beauty of good books. :)

You HAVE to try these books NOW! ok (cuz she is smart and trusts my judgement) what are they about. I said its historical paranormal with shifters and elves and magic and true love. I did add that there is lil sex, as some either want alot or none in thier books. I said this story will haunt you and you will try for days to figure out stuff that wasn't addressed/finished in the book. My highest compliment I can give a book is "I didn't want to finish it!" meaning I didnt want to leave this world and the characters!

I really like these book because...

Hope. The people in this world give hope. The characters find hope and joy in the midst of pain. The kind of pain that can make you take to your room, pull the curtains tight while you bury your face in the pillows and weep so hard your sure your heart will break. If characters in a fantasy can find that hope, it gives the reader hope they can as well.

Identity. The characters all have commonalities with me. A shared joy, a passionate afternoon with my love, a remembered breath of shrieking pain or the sly smile that peeked through.

Imagination. A lovely rich world that allows the reader to participate as much or as little in the story as they wish rather than being forcefully led along.

Bravo!

It is interesting that so many people love your books because of how unique they are. While I do feel that you have a unique world, one of the reasons I love it so much is because it REMINDS me of other worlds I love. The dwindling Tairen pride reminds me of Benden Weyr on Pern. The stoic Fey warriors remind me of the Fremen of Arrakis. But put together in a new way.

I feel like several of the elements I love in fantasy, sci-fi and romance are all included in these colorful novels. I love to read twists on well-known settings or plots. I like that the characters and world you have created are unique, but not foreign to all of us. We can relate, even though we may not be magic-endowed warriors with thousands of years of life behind us.

I like that there is plenty to look forward to. A comfortably predictable plot has it's own time and place, and I certainly am not going to belittle it. But it is nice to read something that pulls you along, and you don't really know where you are going.

I like many of the smaller characters. Rain and Ellysetta don't actually make even my Top 5 list of favorite characters. But I like that I have that choice, because many books don't have any developed characters other than the hero and heroine. This allows me to make my own choices, and have my own favorites. The world is big enough for more than just the author's ideas.

Also, thank you for killing a few large characters. It can be irritating when you come out of an epic 5-part series and EVERYONE SURVIVED.

When I recommended it to my husband, I told him that it was a great high fantasy series. Good vs. evil, romance and friendship. Characters you can invest in and follow whether they are saving the world, or quietly going about their daily lives.

I would have read this series if it had been billed as straight fantasy. I might actually have found it faster that way, come to think of it. But neither the fantasy (paranormal) or the romance suffers because of the merging of the two genres. They enhance each other and make for a strong story.

The winged panthers were a surprise. I like the idea of soul mates in the true sense of the word. A fantasy world with a different set of creatures, rules and structure. I can't wait to read the series. I have book 1 and I think book 2. I tend to buy books that sound really good, then don't have time to read them. When it is a series, I often wait to get them all before I start. Don't like to wait too long to see what happens next.
Congratulations on and good luck with the release of The Queen of Song and Souls. Thanks for running such a nice contest.

I really like how developed all the characters are, the subplots, and how detailed and beautiful the world is. Fantasy is a realm of infinite possibilities, and I like the way magic is structured in this one. Probably my favorite thing (other than Bel and Gaelen) is that the growth of Ellie and Rain's relationship, not their lust, is the focus of the story.

I got Lord of the Fading Lands as an ARC and the first time I read it, I thought, I'm going to put this down and let it cool off for a couple of weeks. It can't really be as good as I think - I must have just been in the mood for that genre. So I put it down because I had other books to review, but I didn't wait the whole two weeks, I kept thinking about the book. I would up reading it three times almost straight in a row (I finally got afraid I'd burn myself out and not enjoy it anymore).

I think what appealed to me the most was that it was different. No vampires, no shapeshifters, no sex (yeah, I know, but that was a good thing), just an old fashioned kind of romance with all the elements I love - suspense, humor, innocence, a really good villain, and of course, heroes to die for! - and it was like a Cinderella-type emergence of the heroine and hero.

There was no thread not tugged and weaved into the plot so completely that you were left with questions, except for the ones she wanted us to have. The story was richly and beautifully written, tightly plotted, and convincing.

Just to correct my earlier comment, I was referring to vampire and werewolf shapeshifters, which I also enjoy, but was getting a bit tired of.

I'm not a romance reader. I'm in it for the epic fantasy and Tairen Soul does not disappoint. Lately, urban fantasy is all the rage, and it is filled with Fey that are basically pretty, mean, and interested only in banging human women. The rich, distinctive culture of the Fey in the Tairen Soul books is a beautifully done departure from that tiresome cliche. It is my favorite part of the books.

The entire world is complex and very real, and I enjoy the political maneuverings and vast misunderstandings between the short-lived humans and the timeless immortals. To the humans, a thousand years is time enough for stories to become legend, legend to become myth, and myth to fade away. The crimes of the Eld are almost a fairy tale to the Celeirans. To the Fey, that same thousand years was just a brief interlude where the enemy licked their wounds. It's almost impossible for the two viewpoints to meet.

All in all, I'm unqualified to judge the quality of the romance but I do find the quality of the world-building to be exceptional, and I am deeply invested in the fates of the various characters - Gaelen is my favorite, I gotta admit. The last book in the series can't come fast enough.

I read it for the ass-kickery by the Fey, first and foremost. I absolutely adore witty warriors. <3 The romance squeaks right up in there, too...'cause hey, who wouldn't want Fey devotion? <3

What would I say to people I'm trying to convince? I believe one other commenter said the same thing: "I don't want to finish reading it." And it's true. It's a world that yoinks you in from the moment the hero lays his hands upon Shei'kess. He's not invincible, not immune to pain and emotion. He seems like he could be mortal...only he's not. He's made it his personal mission, as Defender of the Fey, to save his slowly-but-surely-dwindling race. And he'll use fang, claw, flame, and magic to do it. The heroine in the novel is mortal [ don't spoil it for them by saying she's not! ;) ], and she's bound to him, as closely as anyone can, through both circumstance and a bond deeper than anything, woven by fate.

In fact, I'd pretty much said that to my mom, and she's hooked, too. xD

I have gotten four of my girlfriends reading this series. I just told them that these books have it all, romance, mystery, and war all in one. Several of my girlfriends are really big LOTR fans, so this book was an easy sell. The only drawback any of us have so far is that we are reading in installments! ;)

I think the magick in the novels is my favorite part of everything, the way it associates to the earth, wind, fire, air, and the idea of spirit weaves is amazing. I really love the idea that magick can have a whole other realm that uses the mind and an unseen force. I really thought that was an amazing idea and I really liked the way it is portrayed and used. And the detail set into the difference in Mage magick and Fey magick is very awesome!

Woot! Happy Day! My copy was sent yesterday. Which means I will have to wait anywhere between 1-4 weeks to get it. Also waiting on Jordan Summers new one.
Most of my friends are into more gruesome murder type books. I have tried many a time to get them to read yours, but alas no luck. But when I tried I would say something along the lines of "I really like these books because they just have something for every taste. Fantasy, mystery, intrigue, comedy, tragedy, not to mention a romance that makes me green with envy. They have it all. I just fell in love with the Hero and Heroine and they have an amazing cast of supporting characters. Even the bad guy is one of those "love to hate him" kind of guys. You can tell how much I love the books by the poor state they're in, damaged from having been read several times over. You must try them!"
I'm still pushing them on people though. One day someone will read them just to get me to shut up. :-) Till then their loss, my incredible gain.

My Queen copy is laying ominously on my bedside table giving me occasional glances, yet I refuse to pick it up. My midterm must come first.... Oh the joys of history!

I love that your Tairen Soul series is so...epic. Epic journeys, epic realizations, epic love. And yet with all the larger than life aspects, I'm still able to connect to the characters and understand (at least some) of what they're going through. Ellysetta has insecurities that I bet a lot of women can recognize, even under such different circumstances. Your interweaving of romance and fantasy is top-notch and so well-balanced.

Speaking of the characters, I also love that the secondary characters are fleshed out and have complete personalities of their own. (I'm so glad you're going to tell Gaelen and Bel's stories!) I find myself caring about them just as much as Ellysetta and Rain.

And finally, the world itself is so wonderfully described, it's a full-on sensory experience by itself.

In conclusion: ♥.

Actually I just got an email from B&N that the release date got pushed back. I felt it was strange that I had not received the book, they usually ship it a couple of days before the release.
