King of Sword and Sky Release Countdown (T -1)
"Do you love me, Rain?"
"More than I knew it was possible to love."
"And if I cannot save the tairen..."
He stepped close and laid his fingers on her lips, silencing her. "I will love you still. All the stars will fall from the heavens before I ever stop."

My apologies for being so late with today's post and the announcement of yesterday's winners. I was travelling back from my weekend in Knoxville, and my flight out last night didn't make it in time for me to make my connecting flight. So...long story short, I spent last night at a hotel near the Knoxville airport and spent all day today travelling. Had an incredible morning view of Washington DC (believe it or not - I flew north to come south...lol) We landed right across from the Capitol building, the Washington Monument, the mall, the Smithsonian, the Jefferson memorial, and the Lincoln Memorial. It was beautiful and rather surreal.
Only ONE more day until the release of KING OF SWORD AND SKY, book 3 in the Tairen Soul series! Tomorrow is the big day!!!
You only have two more chances to win the autographed books, cover posters, and collector cards I'm awarding to names drawn from the comments posted on each day's countdown blog! So enter now! Glad to see you home safely! Hope you had a nice weekend!
I have never been to an american one. But we have a very nice festival in the Netherlands every april.
http://www.fantasyfair.nl/
Each year they do have some american or british authors. I really hope you can come one year!!!!! You have many fans here.
I would love to go to an american gathering.

Unfortunately there's never been one close to my area, I live at least 6 hours away from Toronto (the only place that might hold a convention) and as much as I might want to, it's too far to go.
I love, love, love today's quote! How sweet!
But on to today's question: I've actually never been to a sci-fi or romance convention before, but I'd love to go to either or both. So many authors/books in one place! What could be better. I don't know the names for most of them, but I did consider going to DragonCon this year, because Sherrilyn Kenyon mentioned it on her blog as part of her Year of Acheron events schedule. Unfortunately my work schedule wouldn't allow it :-( Maybe next year ...
I've never been to any of them. Honestly, I have never thought about going to one. I'm not even sure what all happens at a festival
I have to agree with Jackie B. Today's quote is sweet!
As for the question, well, I've never been to such a convention before, although not for lack of wanting. None seem to really take place around where I live, and those that do usually occur at the least inopportune moment.
I'm so glad you made it back home eventually :)
I went to a NZ fantasy convention once, but only for a few hours. Unfortunately, I didn't know any of the authors present. And then when Mercedes Lackey visited NZ I was living in the UK :( I'd like to try going to a romance of fantasy convention though - they sound amazing!
orannia
PS And I just LOVE the quote! It's....breath catching :)
no, I have never been to one. I might would go to one, if they ever had one close enough to me.
Glad you're back!
I've never attended any sci-fi/ fantasy/romance conventions or conferences. If there was one in my hometown (not very likely!) I might consider attending since they sound fun and interesting.
I've never attended any, but I've wanted to several times. Those author cruise ships sound interesting too! But, parenting and working doesn't leave much time left for socializing unfortunately. I'll just have to live through others :D

I've never been to any fantasy or romance conventions. I'd love to go to DragonCon though! Both for the prominent people that go, and for the fact that I love dragons!
No I've never beento a convention but I have thought of going to one. I just either don't hear about it soon enough to register or the timing is off so I can't go.
Caitlin
I have never been to a conference or convention but would love to go to one. Most are too far away.
I have never been to one, but I would love to go. I live out in the rural midwest, so nothing big like that ever happens close enough for me to go to. Plus my husband manages a farm, so it's not often that he gets enough time off at once to be able to go anywhere. :(
I've never been to one and I'm not usually a huge fan of the romance genre, your books are a different story, I love them.
Honestly though, I am such a fan of reading in general that I would probably go to almost any book convention just to meet the author's and talk to them. No matter what they write I still have the greatest respect for any author.
I've never been to one, unless you count Ren' fest. I'd love to go to dragon con though.
This year my husband and I, along with our 15 year old daughter, "walked around" DragonCon. It was amazing and we are hoping to make plans to attend some of the seminars next year, but only if we can decide on really cool costumes.
Can't wait for tomorrow...I am re-reading Book 1 and 2 just to be prepared.
From one Southern Gal named Cheryl Lynn to another...Congrats!
No I haven't been to one :(. I have been drooling to go to one for a couple of years but as I haven't seen one here in Australia I drool from a distance. Hopefully either next year ( or the year after) we are going to head to the States. We are having a romance convention here in Australia next year. ( the inuagural one) and I signed up to that as soon as I knew. I get the feeling this will be the first of many conventions lol
Cheryl its the 30th here so wooooooooooohooooooooooo contrags in advance lol
Bek
I have never been to a convention, but would love to. I have no idea where they hold them though.
The only convention I ever been to was a comic book convention. I don't remember if people dressed up as comic book characters. It was so long ago. I think it would be neat to go a fantasy convention. Maybe when things get better in the ecnonmy and there is money to spare for traveling, I will go to one, maybe I will take my mother in law and have a girls weekend, that would be fun.
I had been to some sci-fi star trek conventions in the past and always dressed up as a vulcan cowgirl. Boy I sure got some attention with that and even won the costume contest one tim. But I have never gone to a romance conventions.
Totally off the subject: To anonymous....I had misspelled puppet and I don't need a refresher. My book is on it's way to my friend in England when I finished it over the summer:) We exchange books. lol!! The special ones I keep.
to kat:
the only reason i said that you might want a refresher on the second book is because Ellie's foster mother died and Rain and Ellie are already married by Celerian custom.
I've never been to any of the cons but would love to go to ComicCon and DragonCon. I would also like to attend a RWA conference. I'm not much for crowds but I do think these would be worth it.
To anonymous,
Yikes...I am sorry. I had forgotten her foster mother had died. :( I may have to re-read the book. :)when I get another one.
I went to DragonCon this year, OmegaCon last year, and was part of the staff of SPRCon.
All of them were pretty fun, but I spent way too much money at DragonCon. If anyone is considering going, make sure to preregister....the lines are outrageous otherwise. If you've never been-be prepared for a LOT of walking. It was held in four major hotels this year. The costumes were amazing, the guest list of authors was extensive too.
Omegacon was not bad, but compared to DragonCon...well it was a candle to a forrest fire. I could get everything done in a day and relax at the hotel all evening.
SPRCon was held for the first time this year and was smaller that Omegacon, but it is not exactly a sci-fi/fantasy...its more of a new age con i guess. The group that does it holds it in a building that is believed to be haunted. They have the normal things like a gaming area, concessions stand, etc. But the highlight of the con is going on a ghost hunt until all hrs of the morning.
Off the subject:
King of Sword and Sky is EXCELLENT. Congratulations on a stunning novel. It leaves me going crazy for Queen!!
to kat:
It's kool. I know how it is. I loaned my copy of Lord of the Fading lands to a friend....then she managed to lose it...grrrr...
I had to go buy an e-reader copy of it just so I could re-read it :(
I have never been to a convention before eventhough I have always wanted to. Unfortunetly there aren't too many near where I live. I begged my mom to fly me to las vegas one time to go to a EQ2 convetion but seeing as Las vegas is much too far from nc and I was only 13 at the time...that was definitly out of the question. My older brother was lucky enough to go to a huge Star Trek convention in Las Vegas a few years ago. It looked sooo COOL! I was totally jealious, he got pictures with Klingons! (I'm such the danty flower i'm told) At least I had my dad and brother to talk 'geek' to growing up. Voyager was my fav! I wanted to be *Seven of Nine* so badly lol!...(Hey my girly sis could tell ya everything about Gucci purses, while I could talk you to death about Intergalactic Diplomacy...) :) Most people get the wrong impression by my look, and think me the type of blond who shops her brains out while smacking bubble-gum, def NOT the case...lol
I was mad that I missed that DragonCon Convention..it wasn't that far from nc, and I know I would have loved it! I will have to keep an eye out next time. (Anyone near NC who knows of one let me know and I'll def try and go, that'd be so cool!)
I'm happy though, I'm going to a renaissance festival in CT when I go visit my boyfriend during my fall break...ANd I'm dressing up this year! Too bad though my costume is this Viking chick..lol close enough..
-Geeks rule the earth!:)
I rambled way too much, Sorry!!!
-Bridget
I went to DragonCon a couple years ago with friends.
I've never been to a convention. They seem kinda crowded and I get really nervous in crowds...so...
Despite being a sci-fi/fantasy junkie, I will admittedly say I've never been to a convention! :(
I think the reason I've never gone was I never really know when or where they are going on. If there were any in the area and I was able to make it, I would definitely go to them!
Oh Cheryl speaking of that beautiful view at the Washington airport, I had flown in that very runway one time and had to sit in the plane a few minutes and got to see all those beautiful landmarks too! It was quite a site!
Let's see....we go to biker rallies but that's not quite the same thing though we do see and meet some interesting people. We go to RenFests and again see and meet interesting people but again not quite the same thing. I go to geocaching events and wheresgeorge gatherings which have plenty of geeks and nerdy people but.... Nope, never been to any conventions with authors though I have been to a book signing in Boonsboro, MD and had Christine Feehan sign my books!
Terri
I have never been to a festival but have thought about going since I love anything with fantasy in it- i.e., Fae, fairies, mermaids, etc. etc. I raised 3 children by myself and I just never had the time nor the money between raising them. Now I have the means so I just might get around to doing that the next time one comes within a short distance of where I live in NC. I think it would be fun and exciting. Donna Bowman
never been to a con, but i want to go
Can I just say that today feels like an eternity, not only because it is a Monday but because of how excited I am about tommorow!!! I have never been to a convention. I always tell myself that I going but never do. Oh well, more time to spend reading my books. ;)
AWA, MTAC, DragonCon, Omegacon, PersaCon, my grandmother took me to cons all the time growing up. I love them!
As you know, Cheryl, I got lucky when RWA was in San Francisco this past July, where I got to finally meet you! It was my first conference and will probably be my only for a while. I just found out, tho, that there's a smaller conference over on the CA coast, but had to miss it this past weekend. Will try to go to it next year, tho. I had a blast in SF and recommend anyone who can get to one to definitely go! It is so worth the time and the money.
I have never been to a romance convention. I think I went to a Sci/Fi Convention when I was twelve, so I don't really remember it. But I have been to a couple of book signings.
i went to dragoncon and dressed up as an elf this year....but thats the only one i've been to.
Hi, i'm new to this, but a friend of mine told me to check it out. I've never been to a con, but she is trying to get me to go to dragoncon next year.
I used to ask my mom to take us to a Dark Shadows convention when I was younger- I loved that show! I've never been to a convention, but I would like to, especially ComicCon. My sister went to an anime one where she got to wear a costume and participate in a skit- it sounded fun :) Her pictures were awesome.
RWA in SF was tons and tons of fun, Got to meet fellow blogger and all those wonderful author
I have never been to a romance convention, so if anyone wants to bring RT or RWA to the Chicago area, I would be thrilled!
The only sci-fi conventions I have been to were Dr. Who conventions back when Tom Baker was The Doctor. Yes, I am so old I creak....
Glad you made it safely home. I am looking forward to the newest book in the series. I have never been to one. It would be nice to atend but right now it is something I can not afford to do.
I have never gone to one. I live in Vermont & have yet to see one here. If I were to travel for one, it would require using my book budget. Although I'm sure I would enjoy it, the pain of less book purchases could prove to be too much!! I would be willing to sacrifice several books to see Cheryl though!!!
I have never been to one although I'd love the chance to experience it at least once. Since I live in the middle of nowhere on a cattle ranch it can be rather difficult to get away and even then most conventions are not anywhere closeby.
I don't know that they even have conferences like that here. I would consider attending though if there were authors I knew.
Nope I've never been to a convention. I guess I would go if I wanted to meet an author I like.
I went to my first sci-fi/fantasy convention this summer in Tulsa, CONestoga.
I, too, have never been to a convention but would love to attend. I will be taking a creative writing course next semester as I have been kicking around the idea to write a book. My daughter thinks I should write one. I've run some of my ideas past her and my brother. My brother suggested I take the creative writing class.
I'm looking forward to going to the bookstore in the AM. I was on my way home from work, decided to swing by B&N (in the event the book was put out early). I was shocked to find out it wasn't just closed but out of business. I just bought a couple of books there in August. Once I get done here, I'll have to google the location of another bookstore.
I have never been to one. I would love to go to one though if one ever comes close enough for me to go to!!
No, sadly I have not because there have never been any close by but I love to attend a romance one. That would be interesting
No i have not..I would love to go to one
I would consider visiting any sci-fi/fantasy or romance conference that would include authors known to me. However there are not many such functions in my area, at least that I'm aware of.
I went to Dragoncon once a few years ago, and want to go again, but life has been conspiring against me the last couple of years. I know that 2009 is also out for me, so i'm shooting for 2010. That will probably be a wild one anyway, end of teh first decade of the new millenium and all. I am planning to attend Albacon, a smallish sci-fi con in upstate NY in October of this year. It is the first one that i've found close to home. Otherwise it is hours on a plane or in a car to get to the Cons.
I am glad to see that you made it back safely.
I have never been to any conventions, though some of Darrell Starbird's car shows might qualify for sci fi! I live in no wheresville and do not get any opportunities to go to conventions. I would love to go to a romance convention though.
Can't wait only 52 minutes!!!
**Patty**
Have never been to one, nor have I heard of any or come across any blog or online info.
lcorrene
Nope I have never been to any type of convention. I used to want to go to the Dungeons and Dragons conventions, but not anymore.
Now I have 4 kids and it will have to wait until they are much older; I think they would rather go to Disneyland or something anyways.
I would like to go to a book signing sometime.
Many years ago I attended a romance bookreaders convention. It was outstanding and expanded my knowledge and appreciation of the genre. Your writing style belongs in both worlds, sci-fi and romance. A seamless blending of love and fantasy!
I envy you being out there in Washington. It's one of a few destinations on my life goals list. I hope your having a wonderful time there.
Now I'm a little shy to admit this but I go to comic book conventions. I have for many years. We have a big one that happens every year here in Chicago and my friends got me hooked on going to it every year. But its not just for the comic books, its for the artwork, movies, etc also. Anyhow, this is the only convention I've gone to thus far although I really really want to go to a book convention. I see authors posting about the great time they have at their book cons and I always feel I missed out. This new year coming up, 2009, I plan to make certain I finally attend a book convention.
I would love to go to any of them! But being a student makes it impossible for me to go on a road trip all of a sudden. They have to be closer to home for me to attend; which they never are.
Though I'd just drop in for a visit. Can't wait to see you at the M&M convertion! It should be fun!
Hawk
The cons (conventions and conferences) I've been to include:
*Moonlight & Magnolias (Atlanta, GA) - the annual Georgia Romance Writer's conference. Wonderful. I have been going for years.
*DragonCon (Atlanta, GA) - the largest fantasy/sci-fi/horror convention in the world. I went this year for the first time in years, and I will be back!
*RWA National (venue changes yearly) - the national Romance Writers of American conference. I go every year.
*Romantic Times (venue changes) - the readers & writers conference sponsored by Romantic Times magazine. I've only been once but it was fun. I'll be there again (in Orlando this time) this year.
*Celebrate Romance (venue changes) - this was one of the first reader/writer get togethers. I went for a few years. I don't think they have them any more.
* - * - * - * - * - * - *
Con's I'd like to attend:
Australiance Romance Reader Conference. I am saving my pennies. The DH and I both want to go. *g*
*Emerald City Opener (Seattle, WA) - northwest regional RWA conference. I've heard good things, and I love the Pacific NW. :)
*Get Caught Reading at Sea (on the briny) - I'd love to go to one of those reader/writer cruises.
*FaerieCon (venue changes) -I've never been, but it sounds right up my alley!
One of the best ways for me to get out and meet people is to attend/speak at at a con in their area - then I can arrange booksignings, get togethers, etc.
so if you have conferences around you (I'm looking at that netherlands fantasy fair, Mieke!! *g*) drop me a line at cheryl@clwilson.com and I'll look into going. I'd really like to do more travelling and get to meet more folks.
cheers
Cheryl
Wow, long trip. Glad you're back home of course it's time to travel again. :)
The only conferences I've been to for writing are RWA, TARA's mini retreat, and now M&M. I'd love to go to comic con and few others though.
Not recently, but I've been to a few Star Trek conventions several years back with an old boyfriend.
C.L.
I waited all morning and part of the afternoon (on Monday) for you to update the blog. Please count my entry. Thanks.
I've been to two RT conferences. New York and Daytona. Both were fantastic! I saw a lot of author friends and made a lot of author friends. Hopefully I'll be in Orlando (RT) next year.
Meljprincess - Not to worry :) I haven't put the names in the hat yet! You will definitely be counted. And sorry again for yesterday's long delay due to my hectic travel schedule.
cheers
Cheryl
I have never attended one, but I have thought about it. I would really like to attend the RT Booklovers Convention, as well as Lora Leigh's Reader Appreciation Weekend.
I have never been to a convention but I would love to go to one.
