I use Amazon and eBay if i can't find them in the library ( budget not as good as i wish it to be ^_- )
I shop at Borders. I much rather see what I'm buying. Somtimes I have ordered online and the covers have imperfections and it just drives me nuts!
Sometimes I'll go to B&N but they are not very good here with having new releases stocked on the day they should be.
If I have to order, then it's amazon.
To get books I usually use online sites like Overstock.com & Amazon.com as well as chain store like Barnes & Noble and Borders (for print books at least). For ebooks I use online sites like AllRomanceEbooks.com, Samhain Publishing, Ellora's Cave, & Changeling Press. I don't have a really big budget but I can't use the library because my library doesn't have any of the books I want so I just save up to buy the new or used.

It all depends on if the book is by "one of my authors" meaning my favorites. Those I will save up and get hardback (if available) or buy at retail the second it is released. I use Barnes and Noble for that since it is our local bookseller. There is nothing better than an afternoon spent in the stacks!
If it is a book I can wait to read, I will order online (Amazon or Barnes and Noble usually) and save a bit. That being said, I am always exploring book stores, used, new, estate sales ect for a find.
I usually purchase my books at Borders. I also visit my local library monthly and they have a room where people donate books that their done with. You can purchase them, paperbacks for a quarter and hardcovers for a dollar. When I leave I usually leave with a bag of books. I also swap books with various friends. If I'm lucky I win some books on different authors blogs, this is always a treat!
I have a used bookstore just a few miles away from my college, that's where I go to buy books. If I just want them temporarily, or am reading them for the first time, I check them out at my local library. With the Tairen Soul books, I checked them out at the library, then had to run to the bookstore and buy them the very next day I had class. :)
Usually get my books from amazon.com, or books a million. sometimes my mom and I swap books back/forth. My library does not carry any of the authors I like to read, but sometimes I will go there.
I use Amazon to read up about books that I may want. I jump through the lists and recommended books to see what grabs my fancy and then read the reviews to see what people have to say about them. If I like what I read, I then buy them from either local bookshops, websites or eBay.
That was how I found out about your books as a matter of fact. :-)
My friend and I have a tradition. Every Friday we meet for dinner and a visit to Barnes and Nobles. It gives us a chance to catch up with each other and purchase the latest works by our favorite authors. So yes I support the chain books stores. I think this coming week though we'll have to go before Friday. ;-)
I will usually buy books from Barnes&Nobles (the store and online) if I really want the book and have some cash and a coupon. I also go to the library, and swap with friends. I've found some good reads at garage sales when I happen to pass them by. Amazon.com is a good source for the ones I want that are a little difficult to find.
I usually get most of my books at the independent book store that I work at because I get a 25% discount!! VEry Nice But if the store doesn't have what I am looking for I have to order it through their distributer. I also get some of my books online at Barnes and noble and at the store... LOL these are usually the more racier novels because I do not want my boss seeing what I'm buying! LOL Thats so bad and silly, i know.

I use Amazon and library. I read more than watch tv so I go through3 to 5 books a week. As I'm retired, the only time I buy from a bookstore is one of the children or grandchildren give me a gift card, then I spend a lot of time finding a book I will keep and read over and over... which id did for Lady of Light and Shadow.
lcorrene
I mostly use the library for general reading, I buy from Amazon the books I want to keep. As I'm retired I only buy books from a book store when one of my children, or grandchildren, give me a gift certificate. That's how I bought the book Lady of Light and Shadow. lcorrene
I check the Navy exchange first as books are 35% off. Then I'll try Target or K-mart as books are 25% off. If I can't find what I'm looking for I go to B&N or BAM as I have memberships and get 10% off. I also have a friend who owns three used bookstore so I take my books for credit and usually find a few goodies. I order from Amazon and B&N when I win gift certs. or when I'm looking for something in particular.
Mel K.
I normally have to browse through my local bookstore (Books-a-million) to find new authors and/or series. However, I order the newest books of my favorite authors from books-a-million.com. That means I normally get them the day the book is released.
I also worked in my high school, college, and town library before I got married and moved away. Those days were a fog of reading and spending all my extra cash on books from the local "ma and pop" store. Since moving to a larger college town, the library is difficult to drive to and a lot more crowded. :(
Other than that, I am a sucker for a good yard sale or flee market. My husband is trying to finish his college degree, so we live to find bargains ^_^
I use amazon primarily, but when I cant wait for a book to be delivered ill go to Barnes & Noble first, borders second. There probably are some independant booksellers in my area, but I havent found any (atleast for anything other than school type books).
I seem to get my books from wherever I can! Sadly, the B. Dalton in my town closed down in June and we're too small for a Barnes & Noble or a Borders to open up here. So besides the used bookstore we only have Book World (a smallish regional chain)and even though you can't get the discounts you can get at other places I hope they never close just because I love being able to go there and go through the books. I love being able to hold a book in my hands & browse through it, randomly flipping through the pages and stopping to read a little bit.
I'm trying to save money (so not as many impulse buys at Book World!) and order stuff through the library before I buy a copy for myself. It's so easy to interloan from other libraries with my region's website. I just log onto my library account, search and place holds on books, and then they email me when they're ready to be picked up! So when I'm on their website I can always just pretend that I'm shopping but that it's all for free! Yay libraries!
I also order online from Amazon & Barnes and Noble. Especially when a book is coming out by an author I love so I already know it'll be a keeper or when I just plain can't resist Amazon's 3 for 4 temptations.
The used bookstore is great for all my romance book needs. Ever since I started reading them a few months ago I've been going there at least once a week & have been stocking up on Julie Garwood, Laura Kinsale, Lisa Kleypas, etc. Even though the store is small the romance section is huge! The romance section is actually an entire room that was added on to the store.
Another great thing about reading romance is now I make sure to look at the books wherever I am like Wal-Mart, Shopko, Walgreens, the drug store, grocery stores, etc. Everywhere books are, I'm on the lookout for something that catches my eye.
Oops, I meant Amazon's 4 for 3 sale. Plus they have such deep discounts.
I usually use the library but if I really want a book I used to go to amazon.com or barnes & noble but now i go to deepdiscount.com.It has free shipping and I like that
I use amazon or Barnes&nobles or the library
It depends. If its usually a favorite author of a series I'm reading I usually get it from Barnes and Noble or Borders. If its a book I'm not anticipating but the plot catches my eye, I usually pick it up whereever I see it. Sometimes, I order a book online but that's only when I have more than one book that I want to get so that I can save on the shipping costs and get the online discount. Otherwise, it justs seems to cost more.
The bookstore in my town is BAM, but anywhere that I find a good book is where I buy it. I am always looking for a good read.
I use chain stores(Borders, Amazon or Barnes & Noble) & also used stores(we only have one). For older issues I will look at garage sales also. Sometimes even ebay.
I travel a lot for my job so I normally have books on cd to keep me occupied, but when I stop over somewhere for the night, I visit whatever bookstore I can find to get a good book to enjoy.
My library has really good prices on new and used books, so that is where i get most of my collection.
I usually buy my books in the local stores in town.If some chance that none of the stores don't have the book I'm looking for, I'd go online and buy them and with some luck, may find a book or two that catches my interest.
Since I live in a "smaller" town I usually pick up my books at Walmart (the local book store is limited and costly) or we drive into Knoxville to go to Borders. Sometimes I will purchase on line, but that gets costly.
Cheryl, please do not put me in for the drawing. I really appreciate you taking the time yesterday to talk with me and signing my books. You are the GREATEST!
Laura
All of the above. it depends on wether the book is a new release or older; wether i've read the author's work before or not; hardcover or paperback; and of course how badly i want it. if i can wait or i haven't read an author's books before i borrow from friends or the library; if it's a favorite author and i want it fast i'll pre-order from amazon or barnes and noble online; if it is a paperback i can pick it up at my local grocery store, but they don 't carry hardcovers so i go to the local barnes and noble for those if i can't wait for the paperback release.
oh Caitlin Hoy try asking your librarian about how to suggest that they buy a cetain book. I did and now my library stocks a few that i've suggested, not all mind you, but some are better than none.
I buy from any where I can. If a store is selling books I will walk out with at least one book. I usually buy at least two books when I do my grocery shoping. I always to the library books sell. I have so many books that my children say I should open up a library. I just love to read.
The main store I buy my books are borders. I usually go to the borders express in the mall, but I am starting to notice that borders express doesn't have all the books I want. I am reading a series and I am behind, and I can find books in that series that i am not ready to read yet, but I can't find the one that is next in the series. So I am thinking I will have to go to the big borders to find it. I do buy books on ebay, but sometimes I am super impatient and I want to start reading them now, so I go and buy the book brand new. I haven't bought any books from amazon yet, but there is always a first. I also buy books from my local grocery store, but they don't have a good selection, so I usually just pick up a book when I am waiting for a favorite author's book to come out.
I usually buy new books at amazon.com or walmart. Easier that way for me to obtain them.
Used books I acquire through used book stores and occasionally at yard sales.
Janet
There is no bookstore in my town. There is a smaller one in the next town but their selection is extremely limited. There is a used bookstore in the town next to the one I work in. I do stop in there to get books every now and then but they seldom have anything new as the owner puts most of the books up on ebay. The closest chain bookstore is about 40 miles away and I've never been in it! Usually, I order online through Books A Million or Wal Mart if I have to have the book and want to make sure I get it. I have been known to use ebay and Amazon for used books. Lately though, I've been so lucky and get many books through NOR to review. They aren't always what I want but when I occasionally get an author that I'm counting the days to get their next book and I get it a couple of weeks/months early....I will read anything to get them!
Terri
I try my local indie book stores first. And if I can wait (patience is really not my thing) I'll order it from them. Otherwise it Borders, B&N or Amazon (gotta love the next day delivery)!
I usually get my books at book stores (i.e. Barnes & Noble, Half Price Books). Sometimes I borrow books from friends. I keep books that I know I will read again.
Amazon.com since they have more of a selection. However lately I've been buying more ebooks via ereader or fictionwise.....Instant gratification as I don't have to wait.
I wish Walmart or Target carries more selection as I like their price more so than any of the other bookstore. I do dance a little jig whenever I see one of the books I like on their shelves.
I like the feel of book stores in general and I buy books there once in awhile, but I mostly use Amazon. Though, my friends and I like to swap books a lot too. :)
I go to big chain stores such as Chapters, as well as online stores such as amazon.com/amazon.ca/ chapters.ca, used book stores and used book fairs, and the library, as my source of books.
Thanks for the collector cards Cheryl!! I usually go to our local library or request books from other surronding libraries in the area. I only buy books at garage sales for a couple bucks or if I really want a book that was just released I'll shop around at a supermarket. Or my sister brings books home from her libary and we swap.
Unfortunately there is no book store in my small town. I usually buy online usually Amazon.ca but also Chapters.
I don't have a bookstore in my area, so I buy most of my books from Wal-Mart or Walgreens. I order from Amazon and Half.com, and sometimes I'll drive an hour to the closest Books-a-Million.
hmmm... barnes and noble, half.com, ereader.com, walmart, etc. etc.
I love Borders, Walden's and Barnes & Nobles. I can spend hours in there just browsing. I don't order books on line to often, there's something about holding a book and getting the feel for it that I love. Also a friend of mine belongs to Double Day so we always order together.
I use what ever source I can. I use Amazon for my pre orders, Deep discount for ones I can wair for, second hand books stores to get out of print books. I also use Abe books, ebay, go into Borders or one of the chain bookstores, the market, friends, book swap club and lastly garage sales. Basically where ever you can find a book for sale lol
Bek
I have different types of books, some you can't get at a regular store. For those I go to metaphysical stores. As for the rest, I get them any where I can but mostly at Borders, Books a Million and Walmart. However, my local gorcery store also has an awesome collection! I never buy used books though. I like being the first to open them. And, woe be the one I loan a book to who returns it with a crease in the spine or dog ears on the pages!
New releases I get at either Borders, Walmart or Target. Older books I get at UBS and Goodwill.
New releases in HC I try to get at the library. They're pretty quick and I get them about 7-10 after the book comes out.
The answer to that for me would be all of the above. I shop at used book stores a lot, but when I'm buying new, I usually end up getting them at Walgreens or CVS, because I live in a small town without a Wal-Mart, a Barnes and Noble, a Books-A-Million or even a Borders *sob*. If I want to go to one of those places it means driving to the next county, so I don't make those trips very often. I buy at Amazona lot, too. Love their 4-for-3 deals!
I always like to go to Waldens books, but when I can't make it there I buy some at Krogers or Walmart. If I can't find what I want in the store, I do shop online, usually Amazon.
Every once in a while I'll go to WalMart and browse through their book aisle for something good to read. Sometimes I'll find something good, sometimes not, but whenever I buy a book that turns out as part of a series, I usually purchance the rest through Amazon.
However, most of my books aren't received through online means. Family members have a tendency to give me books they've bought used, and there are times when my local library has something worthwhile. I've even been known to borrow one or two from a friend.
When it comes down to it, though, I would have to say that most of my collection seems to come from either WalMart or family.
i rob my sisters books, hehehe....ok seriously...i rob my sisters books, lol, no really i get them online usually from Amazon or e-bay if i can get them. my libraries dont do the books i want to read, and im far too impatient to wait for the library inter-loan rotation, takes forever. as there are 3 of us, we tend to pick an author and buy every possible book they have, usually if they are already established, otherwise its picking lots of authors. we tend to go thru a lot of books and a lot of authors in my house the can-not-give up stay in the room, the other keepers get put away in our collections to be read again and the ones that were not to our taste we re-sell on Amazon or ebay.and then the whole cycle begins! i like Amazon for the reviews, and the authors recommendations as well as customer ones. And if u get enough books its free delivery- which i cant help but fall for every single time! i budget an allowance for books and high-heel shoes in to my accounts, they are 2 of the neccesities of life! lol. im not a huge e-book fan altho i have a few, i love the feel of books, the smell of the new paper and its a experiance to actually curl up with a cup of tea, chocolate biccys and read. i love owning books, so i dont mind lending books out to mates to make some room for new ones! lol
If I'm not ordering online, am actually going to go purchase books, it usually is the closest bookstore, whatever it is. In reality, that usually works out to be a chain-bookstore as most of the places I have lived have not had independent bookstores.
Other times, if I am in say Walmart or at the airport, and see an interesting book, I will get it from there.
I really am not a 'loyal' customer to specific bookstores anymore, though I usually used to spend a hundred dollars or more every time I went and had the 'club' cards for three or more of the bookstores.
I shop at Amazon.com; they rarely have problems with out-of-stock, which is really nice. More locally, I'll usually use Books-A-Million, Borders or Barnes and Noble.
Have learned the hard way that eBay must be carefully handled, or it will bite you.
I use the library's to read the books I can live without purchasing, because my budget is not what I want it to be. Starving college student!! LOL When I buy books, I hit walmart, amazon, yard sales, flea markets and BAM. I love to go to the yard sales where you can buy a box of books for five dollars! That is greatness!
Generally the library. If I buy, it will be from Amazon or Barnes and Noble
Our main library is closed for construction, so I depend a lot on swapping books with friends to get to know new authors. If its a author I already know I usaly buy them at Wal-Mart or Barns and Noble.
I have what seems to be a very common problem in that the library never has the books that I want to read, so I usually end up buying new, and usually at Chapters. If I discover a new author with an extensive backlist I will order online (either Amazon or Chapters.ca, whichever has all of them and can get them to me the quickest!), but I usually just buy in-store.
I get books from all over the place! Many of my books come from library sales; but I also buy books at big retail stores like Walmart and Target.
i usually buy books from stores like logos or book world..and if i dont find them there then swap with friends..but i make sure i get the books i want :D
cant wait till king and queen comes out!!
I get most of my books from Amazon.com, but I do buy from our local Borders sometimes or even from the grocery store or Target. I don't have any good used bookstores nearby, but I've bought used books online, usually when they are out of print so I can't get them new. I order from eHarlequin now and then, too.
I'll buy books anywhere, but usually buy online, convenient and quick, mostly Amazon, BN and now Borders and a few online independents.
I like to shop at places like ebay and half.com looking for that great deal. Then I can use the money I saved to buy more books (grin). Of course if it's a new release book I want right away then I'll buy at amazon.
I prefer independent booksellers, but they're hard to find here in the big city (I live in Los Angeles). So, I pick up my stories wherever I can find them. :) I do use Bookmooch.com, but the more popular titles always get snatched up quickly there. I prefer to buy books new anyway.
I shop through Amazon, Borders, Target, and Walmart mostly, looking for bargains and discounts. When out of town, I often stop at used book stores. Many of my books are gifts, and I also share with my friends.
I love independent bookstores, too. They are so much more creative and fun, bringing in books that are popular elsewhere than the U.S.
Basically, I get books wherever I can. :)
I go all over for the books I want. First there are my must buy books and authors of which you are definitely a part of. For those books, I'll go to my local book stores searching for them. Normally they are chain stores like Borders Books or Barnes and Noble. And if these retailers don't have it, my last resort is to order my book off Amazon.com. I do like Amazon.com but it takes an extra two weeks to get my book which is why Amazon is a last choice on that front. For books I want to read but don't mind waiting for, I will either borrow the book from the library (if I can, which is always up for grabs as the libraries around me do not have a have a very big selection of paranormal, fantasy or sci-fi romance books) or get it from my book swapping club online at Paperbackswap.com . For books that sound good but I've never read the author before, I usually find those either at my online book swapping club or at used book stores around my house. Garage sales, yard sales, rummage sales, etc are also great places to find books.
I get books at Barns and Noble mostly as that is the closest book store. I also get books at: Borders, used book stores, grocery stores, and Target. And while I may use the internet to research books, I never buy online.
A bit late today, yesterday was a long and intense studyday. I get my books everywhere and anywhere. Dutch books I usually get at the local store which I do try to help as much as possible. But with english books the price difference is just too great. I can be around 6 to 7 dollars and that is a lot on a tight budget. For english books I use proxs in Belgium, play in England and for hardcovers Amazon in the US. For pockets the postage is too high. And then various sites for secondhand books the dutch marktplaats, Ebay and an american store called emerals coast book haven. They have a lot! I don't swap with friends so much but I do borrow and lend with friends.
I too use Amazon or Barnes and Noble. The sci/fi-fantasy section of the local Borders is "slim pickens".
I used to hit a lot of the used book stores and occasionally do if there's an older book I'm looking for, but mostly I buy at Kroger, Wal-Mart, B&N, or Waldens. I want my favorite authors to get credit for those new sales but once they make the transition to hardback, I have to wait until the paperback comes out. I love a brand new book and most of mine don't even have spine creases. My goal is to retire in a few years and open my own used book store. What could possibly be better than being around books all day?
Coles book stores, the first one i got at my food basics
Thanks everyone! I'm sorry I was running around yesterday and didn't get to answer you all. Knoxville is beautiful and I had a wonderful time meeting booksellers, readers, and the lovely ladies of Smoky Mountain Romance Writers.
