It would have to be earth for me. That way if I see some clothing that I liked, I could just make it!! Husband would love that!! *giggle*

I love the little snippets from King of Sword and Sky we're getting at the beginning of each day of the countdown. Cheryl, you're such a tease!

Although I feel for Bel regarding his ... lack ... in this area and admire his mastery of Spirit, I would have to say earth as well.

I love jewelry and just reading Cheryl's descriptions of the sheath and bracelet that Kieran made for Ellysetta just cements my reasons for wanting to be a master of earth.

I would have to say spirit. I am a hedge witch of the fey faith, as such I worship, respect and work with all elements. However, if I mastered spirit I could do so many things for the good of all. Not just by making myself a better person, but by helping those around me be better people as well. They could then pass it along to others. If that happened soon the entire world would be affected and wouldn't that be lovely?

I most definitly would want to be the master of Water! This is not because I live on a island and consider myself a beach bum...ok..I lie it is the reason why. Some people are just mountain people, (Earth, lol) while others like myself can't stand to be away from the shore. It'd be quite hilarious if the water that I controlled was salt water so everything I threw it at became caroaded. They'd call me 'RUSTY GIRL'! haha...bridges would just fall apart when Rusty Girl was near...that's if I was considered a villian, which I wouldn't hope I would be..

Being able to control Water would be the coolest. It could put out Fire, drench the Earth, and I'm not sure what it would do to Azrahn, but I'm sure I'll come up with something randomly five years from now as I sleep..and oh yes Air, well air wouldn't be able to match it's force..or something like that lol :)

Well that's my random bit of nonscense for the day! :) I have to go to Ancient Art History class now before I'm late!..:)

Hmmm... definitely earth. I would love spirit just to make clothes out of nothing... but I don't know if I would feel right wearing pretty much nothing.

Fire would be sweet just because I'm kind of a pyro, but it probably wouldn't be healthy.

Well since I am shy but ambisious I would like to master them all, seems to me that to be a Tarian Soul would be the best of all worlds.

Air Magic! Changeable, doesn’t stay in one place before the need for change and adventure takes over and extremely restless at times. I can be unpredictable like the air and wind, one day, scattered and radical, and then change in an instant to a carefree, spacey breezy attitude. And it seems to suit me (of course I am an Air Sign!). I loved how Rain was “tricked” by the Tairen who by being crafty and ingenious used air to keep him off course, where he became tired and less angry at Ellie and he started to reflected on his own faults. I would love to be able to make air slides; I thought that was really cool!
Really I’d love to master all the elements even Azrahn, which I would probably be afraid of. Just think of what we could do…endless!

For me it would be fire. I don't know why, probably because I'm from a cold climate and I really like the idea of always being able to stay warm! lol.

P.S. Cheryl, I always lurk but I must say I LOVE these books, and the friends I've given them too can't put them down either.

Ooh… This is a tough one. Each of the branches has its own unique draw so I would have to agree with Darlene above. It would be wonderfully cool to be a shape-shifter, shifting to Tairen, but being a master of ‘all’ the branches would be acceptable by itself.
Barring that, for me it would probably be ‘Spirit’. It is a ‘deceptive’ ability, I think, but you can do so much with it.
It can help significantly with healing the emotional/mental wounds of the people. And it can help in many other different areas, such as politics. As in the books, it can be used to show the truth of a situation in a lasting and in-your-face way. With the Fey being so long-lived, history becomes living in a sense because of this and it can help mature a race to be able to ‘learn’ from their past. I would think those with the ‘Spirit’ gift would have to pay greater attention to things so they can ‘remake’ history or spirit items in the detail necessary.
The limitation, of course, would be that you would have to experience something to really recreate it properly (such as knowing the exultation of flying to recreate the experience of flying)—though you could short-circuit this by ‘linking’ with others to obtain their experiences. The other limitation would be the ‘un-real’ part of it, and I don’t think I could use it for clothes (too exhibitionist for me, even if to everyone else it would look real and nothing showing).
Of course, the ‘Spirit’ branch would also be a great ability to have if you have kids (not that I would know anything about that ;-D ). You can keep them entertained and out-of-trouble. You can also engage them. Imagine being able to show them history vividly instead of just dates and one paragraph stories in some book that they already are leery of. I would think the ‘Spirit’ masters would be the best general teachers because of this.
Barring ‘Spirit’, I would go for ‘Air’, I think. Being able to fly via wind, and use it in such interesting ways, would be great. The scene with Ellie being able to be underwater and breathe comes to mind (as a Scuba diver, this part of the air ability would be enough without the flying, etc.). That would be way cool.

Water for me. I can't imagine living somewhere with no water near. I live pretty close to a river and half an hour from the beach. In my country water is everywhere and we see how hard it is to control. Having the magical ability to help control it would make life a great deal easier. :)

The branches of magic I would choose would be earth and spirit. Earth to heal illness and diseases. Spirit to ease physical and mental pain. What a legacy to leave behind. !!!

You guys are great....I love all the reasons. :) I'm greedy and would like to be a Tairen Soul too - master of all magics, and kin to the tairen -- but each magic has its wonders.

And just so ya'll know...to avoid spammers coming and posting sordid / spam comments and links to Busty Russian Teens Gone Wild!! I do moderate all comments (ie, I must read and approve each one before they show up on the page). so if you post and it doesn't show up...odds are, I'm not checking email right at that moment and haven't received your post for approval. :)

Thanks for participating. I'm loving your responses!

I would like to be able to weave Spirit. wouldn't it be nice to heal people's inner demons... Physical hurt sucks, but sometimes I think Mental hurt just kinda festers over instead of healing... So, I think it would be cool to fix everyones issues.
I am so excited, only 12 more days!

I would have to say a master of fire. The reasoning,, well I'm part Irish and I have that cursed firey temper the Irish are know for.I kinda think that to become a master of fire you would have to learn to control that part of your nature.

I first thought about a master of water or earth because that would contain the fire but then I thought its better to master that which challenges the most rather than work against it.

While I'd love to be greedy and say all six, I'd have to pick spirit because I've always wanted to be telepathic. Although, being able to make things with earth would be really cool too....to heck with self-restraint! I want them all! =)

Wow after reading all the comments I feel like everyone has got great comments but the majority has sold me on EARTH! I mean you can a) use it to heal and thus be as immortal as you want to be, b) make clothes and jewels, c) never go hungry (imagine craving a nice white chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream and poof there it is).

Although I've got to say Azrahn caught my eye just because it's so seductive and it's power unknown and mysterious except for the corrupting influence it has associated with it, it's pretty cool.

though earth would probably be the most useful of the elements to have, i would have to say spirit. being able to communicate with people who arent close to you would be very convinient. no more large phone bills for long distance calls. lol.

I would have to be totally greedy and say all of them. LOL To have gifts like Air, spirit, earth, water, fire and azrahn and not have the skills/knowledge to control said gifts would make you a very dangerous person. But I think earth and spirit would be what I would rather have over the others. Earth for the physical things like clothing, and jewelry and spirit for the for entertainment and play. I could go on but my mini-me is getting into things. Will try to comment again later Cherly. Tootles

Well, like others I would want all of them, but, if it just has to be one, then Earth. I love to grow things, I garden, I have alot of houseplants. I really love planting and working in the dirt. I am eagerly waiting for the release of your next book! I am also very disappointed that the 4th will be held up until June. :(

Hello all,

In thinking about what I would be master of I landed upon the choice of Air.

Air to me is very intriguing. Not only does air have the power to put out fires, produce water, and erode the earth, but it also can have the effect to soothe (A gentle breeze rustling the leaves of a tree). Air also cannot be contained, and air is everywhere, it hears and sees all. Air is also necessary for the survival of all things on earth, and without air there would be no H20 and fire could not survive without air! Who doesn't like to breathe freely!

Have a good one everyone!

I say Air magic! I love the idea of flying and the idea of creating the fun "air slide" effects Rain uses.... and the "air trampoline" when he takes Ellie on her first tairenback ride.... whooooo! That scene always makes me smile, just because of the playfulness and joy of it. (Yes, Cheryl, I've memorized Lord and half of Lady....)

I've always loved flying, whether it was parasailing, hang-gliding, or riding in a plane (no, I don't dare pilot a piece of tin and aluminum), and the Air magic effects possible would be a dream come true!

I've thought about this and I want to say spirit. The thought of being able to make illusions that appear real is cool. Okay, maybe that is because Halloween is coming up and a lot of the historical places around here are getting ready for ghost walks.
