It's a toss-up between Gaelen and Bel, but I think the evidence comes down hard on Gaelen's side, at least for me. When things got tough for Ellie, and everyone else had / was betraying her, whether in their thoughts or feelings, Gaelen stood by her. He stood by her in her darkest moment yet, and I have a great deal of respect for a man who would do a thing like that for someone perceived (even momentarily) as a "enemy". I also like the fact that he is shown expressing deep emotion for all to see, and capable of deep love and loyalty to those he cares for. Everything he's done to this point has been to protect others, even those who cast him out. He reminds me of the Guardian of the Watchtower, the one who stands and serves as the last defense because it's both his honor and his duty to do so. (And I'm a sucker for dark hair and blue eyes..lol.)
I like all of the characters but my favorite is Gaelen. As to why? He may have been labeled a bad boy and forced to live beyond the boundaries of his people when he became a dahl'reisen but he still fought for and protected his people even when they castigated him when he had no expectation of salvation and return to their world. That takes guts and determination. And he is so sexy!
I would say that Bel is my favorite. He has stood by Ellie from the start--including seeing the beauty in her when she was still 'hidden' within mortal looks.
He might be fairly quiet but he has such a sweet nature hidden behind his stoicism. He has a lot more wisdom than I think even Gaelen shows. Strong, caring, thinking, wise, and loyal are some of the great qualities of Bel.
Gaelen is more flamboyant, I think. He is a bit of a scoundrel with his enjoyment of tweaking the others, so it is a lot of fun watching him and his interactions with the others. I alternated between laughing and wanting to strangle him--much as I think the others were feeling.
I prefer Bel, all things considering, but all of the characters are multi-dimensional and fascinating--well fleshed out and realistic.
Mine is Ellie. She is sweet, loving and has her faults, but does the best she can under the circumstances. And she has so much responsility and so many people counting on her and still she will do whatever she can to suceed even if it means her own death.
I'm going to have to say Rain is my favorite character. For me personally, his absoulute doggedness to find a way to save both of his families is inspiring. The books so far show him as a multi faceted fae who stuggles daily with just trying to stay sane. As much as I love Galen as a character, the difference between the two is that Galen, at this point in time, doesn't appear to feel guilt for the innocent people who died when he was in his winding rage whereas Rain lives with his guilt, or should I say relives his loss of control everyday. Some how I find the struggle to overcome the great odds of staying sane pulls at my heart strings rather than the bad boy turned good lol.
I'd have to say that Gaelen's my favorite because of what he's been through. Despised, reviled, outcast, yet he's still intrinsically good. I've always had a thing for the brooding loners.
I also like the way he teaches his nephew how much he has yet to learn by defeating him easily. I've always like fictional teachers who cut their students down to size, and then build them back up by making them even better than before.
Gaelen! He is so loyal but he is a real hardass as well. I love that in a man!
My fovorite is Ellie for her strong will and determination to do what is good and right. She is my beacon.
My favorite character is Elly, she's stronger than she really knows and when everything is changing all around her, as much as she believes that she can't deal with it, she does. I love all of the characterss for the good side.
Well, I have to say Rain if my favorite. He's been through so much and to have finally find his truemate, only to have to go slow, waiting for their bond to happen - when he's ready now! - plus all the evil he has to fight against once again, trying to keep the tairen and the fey alive, caring for his men who serve him at any cost, all the while he stands true with honor and dignity, loving Ellie no matter what. And to top it off, he's spectacular when he shifts into his tairen form! I can just see him gliding through the skies. To me, he's the perfect hero.
I too am guilty of being attracted to the "Bad Boy". (Not the one we want to settle down with, just the one we want to tame!) Gaelen gets the Renegade vote, but Bel would definitely get the Stalwart one. Too bad we have to make a choice!
I like all your characters, don't make me choose, I enjoy every thing you write about each of them and want to keep learning more.
I would have to say that its a toss up between Bel, Rain and Ellie. Bel was the first to see her inner beauty and feel the healing touch for his soul. Rain because he was trying so hard to do what was right to win her heart. Ellie cause she is just strong in her sense of right and wrong, and is as fair with everyone as she can be.
My favorite is Rain Tairen Soul, King of the Fey. He is really complex and has so many issues he has to deal with. He has lost so much and didn't know if he could love again, he was struggling to keep up day to day. Then he meets Ellie who shows him to feel and love again. It makes his original mission to save the Fey and the Tarien that much more meaningful and beautiful because he is opening his heart and mind. Ellie and Rain have a beautiful love for each other that is just beginning. Plus to have Rain (or any hot guy) say "Ver reisa ku'chae. Kem surah, shei'tani" to me would make me all weak-kneed and my heart a fluttering! How can you resist? I think I’d faint!
I loved Bel! He is firm in his commitment to make sure that Elly is safe from harm. He understood first the depth of power in which Elly possessed. He is true and even though he stays in the shadows, he is still a huge presence in the story!
Rain and Elly are fantastic characters, the kind you'd want to know if you lived in their world. They are by far two of my all time favorite characters of any author. I also like Shan and Elfeya and hope they survive to get to know Elly. What love - not only for each other, but the sacrificial love of giving up their child and then doing whatever they could to keep her safe, even at their own peril. But the one whose story I'm most anxious for next (and I know it's way way down the line) is Bel. There's just something about his quiet steadfastness and that touch of vulnerability (when he couldn't make Elly's dress from Earth) that makes him so appealing. I know you already have in mind who you'd like for him, but should you change your mind, I'd like to volunteer! : )
My favorite character is Belliard. He is courageous, loyal and dependable. There is occasionally a glimpse of humility and humor which I find very intriguing.
You know what they say about the strong, quiet types !!!
It's gotta be Bel for me. He's such a conflicted guy and I've always loved the strong silent types ;-)
Thank you everyone for posting. I really appreciate you participating, and I quite enjoyed reading your responses. :)
Anyone who wishes to continue to post to this thread may do so, of course, but posts received after this one are no longer eligible for yesterday's prize giveaways.
Cheers and happy reading!
